The 12-rounder IBF Minimumweight eliminator between Filipino IBF #1 Mateo "The Warai Warrior" Handig (13-5, 7 KOs) of Northern Samar and Mexican former WBC Silver Champion G?nigan "El Zurdo" L?pez (22-5, 15 KOs) has been moved to Saturday July 13 in M?xico.

The winner becomes the mandatory challenger to Japanese IBF Minimumweight World Champion Katsunari Takayama (26-6, 10 KOs), whom Handig already defeated in a razor thin split decision last October in La Trinidad, Philippines.

In May of last year, the 31-year-old Mexican southpaw G?nigan L?pez was destroyed in two rounds by Filipino Denver Cuello (33-5-6, 21 KOs) in Guanajuato, M?xico; and boxing fans in the Philippines hope that fast-handed Mateo Handig could beat the tough Mexican too.

Fight contracts were signed by Mexican Eddy Reynoso of Canelo Promotions, fighter Mateo Handig and matchmaker Brico Santig of Highland Boxing of Baguio, Philippines.

The 23 year-old Handig will be accompanied in this important battle in M?xico by Filipino compatriots Cayetano "Jun" Gandeza Jr. of Kambal Kamao Boxing Promotions and Brico Santig, winner of the prestigious WBC Asian Council Promoter of the Year Award.

The G?nigan L?pez-Mateo Handig IBF Minimumweight Eliminator is a presentation of Canelo Promotions, Boxeo de Gala and Grupo Modelo, and will aired live by Televisa.
