
BRICO SANTIG WINS "WBC ASIA-PACIFIC PROMOTER OF THE YEAR AWARD" IN THAILAND (PHOTOS)

Congratulations Brico Santig. Active young Filipino promoter Brico Santig of Baguio received for a second year in a row the coveted "WBC Asia-Pacific Promoter of the year Award" during a formal awards ceremony held at Asia Hotel in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand.
"It's an immense honor for me to accept this award from the World Boxing Council (WBC). It encourages me press forward with more boxing events aimed at helping develop the sport of boxing in the Philippines and Asia. I share this honor with the Filipino boxing family," said the 37-year-old Santig, the matchmaker and promoter in the Philippines with the highest number of boxing events in the year, including the exciting boxing cards "King of the Ring" staged at different PAGCOR Casino Filipino around Manila.
Boxers of Santig's Highland Boxing stable have won a high number of WBC regional titles, having right now seven WBA Asian champions, one WBC International Champion Rey Megrino (19-20-3, 17 KO's) and one Oriental champion Dayer Gabutan (18-1, 2, 9 KO's).
Indeed, Brico's stable of boxers have had an outstanding performance in the ring during year 2012. Regional belts captured by Brico's boxers during 2012 are:
- Donnie Mabao, WBC Asia Continental minimumweight champion
- Mateo Handig, WBC ABCO minimumweight champ
- Dayer Gabutan, WBO Oriental Bantamweight Champion
- Rey Megrino, WBC International super flyweight champ
- Ranel Suco Singwancha, WBC Asian Continental super featherweight king
- Jay-Ar Estremos, WBC Continental Jr. Flyweight champ
- Alvin Tam, WBC Continental Featherweight champion
- Nelson Gulpe WBC, Continental Lightweight champ
- Jujeath Nagaowa, WBC Asia Female Atomweight champion
The success has been fantastic, reason for which Santig and his champions have been invited by the Elorde family to attend the 13th Gabriel "Flash" Elorde Boxing Awards Banquet of Champions at the Sofitel Hotel, March 25, 2013.
However, Brico Santig will not be able to attend as the active Brico has flown from Thailand to Johannesburg, South Africa, to accompany his fighter Dayer Gabutan in his 12-round fight against veteran South African southpaw Vusi "Marvelous" Malinga (20-4-1, 12 KO's), fight to take this Saturday (March 23) in South Africa.
During the WBC awards ceremony, an important recognition went to the gorgeous Thai lady Mrs. Pariyakorn Ratanasuban of OneSongChai Boxing who captured the WBC Asia Female Promoter of the Year.
The best WBC Asia fight of the year was the one between Jomthong Singwancha of Thailand (current muay thai world champion) vs Ranel Suco of the Philippines.
Other awards for fighters during the WBC gala went to:
- WBC Asian Boxer of the year: Xiong Zhao Zhong of China (WBC strawweight champion)
- WBC Asia champion of the year: veteran Sod Kokietgym of Thailand
- WBC Asia Continental champion of the year: undefeated super flyweight Rex Tso (8-0, 5 KO's) of Hong Kong
- WBC Asia prospect of the year 2012: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (17-3-1, 16 KO's) of Thailand. Srisaket will challenge WBC world champion Yota Sato in Thailand on May 3 for the super flyweight world title.

- WBC Asia Pacific Region Promoter of the Year 2012 : Mr. Brico Santig of the Philippines
- WBC Asia Promoter of the Year: Mr. Kokiet Panichayarom of Thailand
- WBC Asia Distinguished Promoter of the Year: Mr. Surachart Pisitwuttinan
- WBC Asia China Zone Promoter of the Year: Mr. Liu Gang of China
- WBC Asia Central Asia Promoter of the Year 2012 : Mr. Yerik Jailauov of Kazakhstan
- WBC Asia Australasia Promoter of the Year 2012 : Mr. Peter Maniatis of Australia
- WBC Asia China Special Administrative Region Promoter of the Year: Mr. Jay Lau of Hong Kong
During the event graced by several WBC world champions, Thai Army General General Kovid delivered the keynote speech.
Other speakers during the event were Patric Cusick who gave a report on the status of WBC Muaythai. Coronel Damrong Simakajornboon gave a report on the activities and current situation of WBC in Asia Also, the WBC Asia ranking system was explained to attendants by Mr. Montree Veerapravasti.
In addition, there was a WBC Asia ring official report presented by official Mr. Anek Hongtongkam.
Among the photos Brico Santig with Kokiet boxers and offcial Coronel Damrong Simakajornboon, Patrick Cusick, Kiate Sirigul and General Kovid. Other photos show Pariyakorn as the best female promoter in Asia.
