It is more than a tradition already and we will continue to do it. For and in behalf of the Republic, the Games and Amusements Board headed by former Olympian and topnotch sportsman himself Eric R.Buhain, the Board's Chairman has commended the Boholano pride Rey "Boom Boom " Bautista for his remarkable performance in defeating Brazil's Giovanni Andrade.

Last Sunday via the international media coverages, this world class undefeated champion from Candijay, Bohol and under the tutelage of the ALA Stable Management of Antonio Aldeguer and Sammy Gello-ani of the SSG Promotions, displayed the true spitir of every Filipino with his sensational win over Andrade at the St.Pete Times Forum in Tampa , Florida , USA.

His convincing win marks another feather in the cap of BoomBoom and another milestone in the country's fistic tradition.

"The Games and Amusements Board and the entire professional boxing community of the Philippines salute this great emerging hero of Philippine boxing, and that his performance is another manifestation that indeed, Filipino fighters are world class," said Chairman Buhain upon learning of Bautista's victory.

Bautista's professional boxing career will be put to a test once again in February. And he is much ready now to pick up more fights not only in the regional level but for world title battle. While his homecoming was not as well-chronicled as that of the fire-breathing Manny Pacquiao, however, millions of his fans including top political leaders and businessmen from Tagbilaran City and the entirety of Boholanos are preparing a "red carpet heroes welcome for BoomBoom". I was once a witness on how the constituencies of Governor Aumentado and Mayor Danny Lim gave value and prestige to their boxing hero late last year of 2005 when Bautista fought and decked Obote Ameme of Kenya , Africa. The support that Boholanos showed then was just beyond compare.

What is mostly awaited now in the boxing scene is whether or not Bautista will be drafted to be Daniel Ponce de Leon's opponent in defending the latter's WBO super bantam weight title in the near future. This might become another senasational clash ala Pacquiao-Morales. Ponce de Leon is another of Mexico's pride boxer and currently the incumbent "king" of the WBO super bantam.Maybe with Freddie Roach as his trainer and SSG Promotions known to be closer to the De La Hoya's "Golden Boy Promotions" , the expected thing to happen is not far from being real.

Rey Bautista has so many advantages in this earlier stage of his career.A very bright future awaits him.And his goal of alleviating his family from the bondage of poverty is almost a reality. Being so young, a hard puncher, well-trained and well-exposed and most of all his being undefeated is more than an advantage. Good luck BoomBoom! Show to the world that we have more than enough to show them and the Pinoy fighter is always on the top.

Mabuhay ka !
