MEXICO CITY TO CEBU: TRAVEL TIME FOR NIETES'S OPPONENT

It's travel time for Nietes' opponent, Moises Fuentes. On Tuesday February 19, WBO Minimumweight World champion Moises Fuentes will start his long trip from Mexico City to Cebu, Philippines, for his world title battle against fellow world champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes of the Philippines for the WBO Jr. Flyweight World Title.
The departure date indicates that the Mexican will arrive in Cebu about ten days prior to his squaring off with the friendly soft spoken 30-year-old two-division Filipino world champion born in Murcia, Bacolod.
The Mexican team has already received the plane tickets all the way from Ciudad de M?xico to Ceb?, sent by them by the fight's promoter, ALA Promotions, the top promotion company in the Philippines.
The 27-year-old Fuentes will be accompanied in his long trip by his manager Jorge Barrera Tapia, sparring partner Mart?n Tecoapetla, head coach Genaro Dom?nguez and promoter Aaron Segura. Segura has been one of the promoters who has helped Fuentes in his boxing career. In addition, former champion Marco Antonio Barrera will be rooting for Fuentes on fight night.
The first leg of the long journey will be from Ciudad de M?xico City to Amsterdam (Holland). Then, the Mexicans will board their KLM plane from Amsterdam to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1. There, the group will change terminals to catch a flight a flight to the Queen City of the South, Cebu.
The much awaited "Pinoy Pride XVIII World Champion VS World Champion" fight is expected to draw huge numbers of boxing fans from all over the Philippines to the ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel & Casino, one of the most luxurious hotels in the paradisaical land of the Philippines, home of Miss Universe 1st Runner up and the friendliest people on Earth.
FUENTES WOULD HAVE TO CHOOSE
Fuentes, who is represented by Promociones Zanfer of Mexico, became the official challenger for Nietes after the last WBO Convention. It was agreed by the WBO that in case that the Mexican wins, he will have some short period of time to decide which title he'd like to keep, if the Minimumweight title or the Jr. Flyweight.
Of course, Nietes, making the second defense of his Jr. Flyweight title, intends to keep the coveted belt for himself.
Nevertheless, on March 16 Moises Fuentes will climb up the ring of the Waterfront Hotel & Casino as the WBO Minimumweight world champion and defending champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes as the Jr. Flyweight title.
That is why the card is appropriately being marketed as "Pinoy Pride XVIII: World Champion VS World Champion."
FUENTES METEORIC RISE
In preparation for his tough fight against the experienced Nietes, the young Mexican has been training for months at the gym of Marco Antonio Barrera located at Delegaci?n Iztacalco. Iztacalco is one of the 16 delegaciones (boroughs) into which Mexico's Federal District is divided.
Fuentes has been training there, aware that fighting Nietes in his adopted city of Cebu will not be easy. For one thing, the promoter is Nietes's manager and all Cebu fans will want Nietes victory, of course. Yet, Fuentes is determine to get back to Mexico with Niete's belt and he might draw strengh from his meteoric rise, especially during his ring performances during the last two years.
Indeed, Fuentes's rise to the world title is story of success. In 2011 Fuentes dethroned his compatriot Ra?l Garc?a-Hirales in Guadalajara, to be crowned WBO minimumweight world champion.
Then, last year Moises made two successful defenses of his crown. First, he defended his title from his mexican compatriot Julio Cesar F?lix in Tijuana.

Then, the cheerful Mexican annihilated "Iron Boy" Iv?n Calder?n in five rounds in Bayam?n, Puerto Rico. His technical knockoout win over the crafty and experienced Iv?n Calderon is one of Fuentes's greatest victories.

Moises Fuentes Rubio shares about his family life:
"My whole family has always supported me. I liked boxing. I fight because I want to get my family away from all the poverty that there is. My mom Martha Rubio has always supported me. My brother Israel supported me too. My niece Ingrid is my great motivation, same as the rest of the brothers" shares "Moises."
"My brothers are waiters, working in restaurants. I finished high school, then we had difficulties in our home so I became a waiter too. Sometimes I worked as mason in construction sites. Then, all my brothers and my mother helped me to get back to boxing. I've always felt that boxing has always been my thing (destiny)," said the 27-year-old champion who hails from Ecatepec de Morelos, is a city in the State of Mexico.
