After twelve rounds of boxing, WBC #14 Jomthong Chuwatana (5-0, 3KO's) of Thailand successfully defended for the second time his OPBF super featherweight (130 lbs) crown by outpointing tough Filipino Ronald Pontillas yesterday in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand.
Official scores were: judge Yuji Fukuchi of Japan 118-110, Samas Chantakloi of Thailand 119-109 and Virgilio Garc?a of Nueva Ecija Philippines 117-111, all in favor of the 23-year-old Chuwatana
Jomthong Chuwatana, reigning WBC Muay Thai Lightweight (135 lbs) world champion, is in the mission of becoming the first man in history to reign as a Muay Thai world champion and boxing world champion at the same time.
Ronald Pontillas (15-5-3, 7KO's) of Las Pi?as, Metro Manila, was accompanied by his manager Rommel Nazario, trainer Gerry Garcia and matchmaker Brico Santig.
Naris Singwancha was the promoter.
The Chuwatana-Pontillas fight was broadcast live on open TV throughout the Kingdom of Thailand.
CO-MAIN EVENT: SOD KOKIETGYM OUTPOINTS RANDY MEGRINO TO GRAB PABA TITLE
In the co-main event, veteran Sod Kokietgym (61-2-1, 28KO's) of Thailand outpointed brave Filipino Randy Megrino (12-13-2, 7KO's) of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, to capture the vacant PABA super bantamweight belt.
Filipino Brico Santig, the fights matchmaker, commented about the match:
"My kababayan Randy Migreno lost by unanimous decision. But, it was a good combat. According to Thai-Japanese reporter Bankoku Gurentai, Randy made a clean fight. The Thai not so.
"Also, in the opinion of experienced Filipino coach Lito Jalnaiz (who was in attendance), the Thai Sod Kokietgym almost gets knocked down three times during the fight. But the Thai had a fast recovery. It was a good fight. It went all the distance."
Filipino Lito Jarnaiz is the trainer of reigning WBC Minumumweight world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong, the first ever boxing world champion born in mainland China.
The victorious 35-year-old Sod Kokietgym (61-2-1, 28KO's) is currently ranked as WBA # 11, WBC # 6 and WBO #6 super bantamweight.
However, the reigning super bantamweight super champion is 30-year-old Filipino sensation Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20KO's).
After the twelve stanzas, the general opinion was that Sod Kokietgym might outpointed inexperienced fighters as Randy Megrino.
But seems highly unlikely that the thai boxer could have any chance of against a fast and powerful champion as Nonito Donaire.
The promoter for the Sod Kokietgym-Randy Megrino was Mr. Kokiet Panichayarom, chairman of Thailand's Kokiet Group.
Supervisor was Mr. Alan Kim of Seoul, Korea. The matchmaker was Brico Santig of Highland Boxing of Baguio, Philippines.
