Davao's 20-year-old JR Estremos (8-5, 2KO's) scored the most important win of his young boxing career by outpointing "The Baby Hatton" Jopher Marayan during the exciting "King of The Ring" card presented Saturday night co-promoted by Brico Santig and Naris Singwancha at the plush PAGCOR Grand Theater of Airport Casino Filipino in Paranaque City, Metro Manila.
JR Estremos visited the canvas during the intense action of round 12, but was able to get up and diffuse Marayan's onslaught to finish the action-pack fight standing and get the nod.
Official scores cards: Judge Eddie Nobleza of Batangas 117-110, Benigno Penafiel of Quezon City 116-111 and Emmanuel Mananquil of Manila 116-111, all for the winner by unanimous decision and new WBC Asia Council Continental light flyweight (108 lbs) champion JR Estremos, who is co-promoted by Thai boxing boss Naris Singwancha and Brico Santig of Highland Boxing of Baguio City.
In the co-main event, WBC Asia Council Continental minimumweight champion 24-year-old Donny Mabao (21-20-1, 4KO's) of Bukidnon made the successful first defense of his title by scoring a majority decision victory over the more accomplished Former World Champion Florante Condes (25-8-1, 21KO's).
Scorecards were: judge Nowel Haduca of Quezon City 113-113, Romeo Yulo of Cavite 115-111 and Emmanuel Mananquil of Manila 114-112 for the winner by majority decision and still WBC Asia Council Minimumweight (105 lbs) champ Donny Mabao. The referee was Virgilio Garcia.
This was Condes's third lost in a row, a fact that prompts fans to think if the 32-year-old former world champion once know as "The Little Pacquiao" still has what is needed to compete at the highest level in the sport of boxing.
WBC fight supervisor Coronel Damrong Simakajornboon of Thailand informed co-promoter Brico Santig the good news that he (Damrong) will recommend the winners to be ranked among the top 15 fighters in their division.
MORE "KING OF THE RING" RESULTS
Undefeated 20-year-old southpaw Ben Mananquil Singwancha (9-0, 2KO's) of Zamboanga, now living in Las Pi?as, won a unanimous decision over 20-year-old Cebuano Zoren Pama (2-6-3, 0KO's)
In another combat, southpaw Alie Laurel Singwancha (8-2, 5KO'S) of Gensan knockedout unheralded 25 year-old Ryan Soliveres (5-16, 1KO) of Catanduanes.
The brave Ryan Soliveres, now living in Muntinlupa, Manila, has been knocked out in 10 of his total 21 fights, a worrisome record that prompts fans to think whether is prudent for Soliveres to continue fighting.
Even if Soliveres really likes boxing, more important is his health.
In addition, 36-year-old Japanese light flyweight fight lady Kayoko Ebata (5-4, 3KO's) of Tokyo scored a 4th round technical KO over 21-year-old Filipina Christine Latube (1-4-2, 0KO's) of Palawan.
THE ORGANIZERS
'Kings of the Ring' was a production of active promoter Brico Santig of Baguio's Highland Boxing and Thai boxing patron Naris Singwancha in association Agerico Paolo Abrogar Jr., Nelson Guitierrez, Virgilio Arniel Gutierrez and the major sponsorship and support of Maria Theresa Palado.
The matchmaker was Allan Alegria, 48, of Cotabato del Norte, who in his youth was former 2-division Filipino National Champion.
The card is approved by GAB (Philippines Games and Amusement Board), headed by the distinguish chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon. Guanzon is voting member of the WBC Board of Governors as well as WBC International Secretary.
