LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Ernie Sanchez, the 20 year-old Filipino born in Zamboanga del Sur, aims at scoring his second win at the MGM Grand Arena when he squares off American Coy Evans in an 8-rounder preliminary bout of the Pacquiao-Marquez4 card tomorrow here in Las Vegas.
In his first fight in the U.S., Ernie Sanchez (13-3, 5KO's) outclassed Dominican Republic's Wilton Hilario (12-3-1, 9KO's) in one of the undercards of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight last June, and the young Pinoy aims at keeping the winning streak on.
In contrast, Coy Evans (10-1-1, 2KO's), eight years older than Sanchez, comes from a TKO defeat at the hands of 22 year-old hard-swinging Mexican Danny Aquino (14-1, 9KO's) last March in Connecticut. That loss nine months ago was the last outing for the Philadelphia native, for which he wishes to get back into the winning column at the expense of the Zamboangue?o.
During the weigh-in that took place Friday afternoon here at the MGM Grand, Coy Evans scaled-in 126.5 lbs (56 kgs), while the Filipino Ernie Sanchez tipped the scales a half pound heavier at 127 lbs (57.6kgs).
At the moment of the traditional face-off, Sanchez appeared smiling, relaxed and friendly while the tattooed Evans, regardless of his success in the weigh-in, seemed tense and perhaps nervous for the appointment in which he is immersed. Nevertheless, the two fighters shook hands in a good sportsmanlike manner and all systems are GO! for their battle tomorrow.
