ROLANDO NOLTE SCORES BACK-TO-BACK WIN IN INDIA CHESS MEET

FILIPINO International Master (IM) Rolando Nolte scored back-to-back win in the Apollo Engineering College Commonwealth Chess Championships 2012 at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Chennai, India.

His latest victory was against Fide Master Rajesh V A V of India in Round 8 yesterday.

The Quezon City resident Nolte improved his output for a total of 6.5 points on six wins, draw and a loss, a good for a share of 4th to 15th placers along with his ninth round opponent GM Danil Lintchevski of Russia.

"Sana mahawakan ni (Rolando) Nolte ang momentum," said Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales, executive director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by it's Chairman/ President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr., and Secretary-General Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino Jr.

Nolte earlier brought down Candidate Master Prince Bajaj in Round 7. His only setback at the hands of GM Mikhailo Olekseinko of Ukraine in Round 5.

Meanwhile, IM Karthikeyan P of India defeated ertswhile co-leader GM Adly Ahmed of Egypt to assume solo lead with 7.5 points, half point ahead over top seed GM Sergei Tiviakov of the Netherlands and GM Venkatesh M.R. of India who notch seven points apiece.

Tiviakov dealt IM Rathnakaran K. of India while Venkatesh subdued GM Alexander Fominyh of Russia.

Other Filipino woodpushers still kicking in the tournament organized by Tamilnadu State Chess Association which attracted by 300 players are GM Mark Paragua (6 points), IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia (6 points), IM Oliver Dimakiling (5.5 points) and IM Emmanuel Senador (5.5 points).

The Filipino chess campaign in India is supported by Pichay, Tolentino, Gonzales,NCFP Vice-President Neri Javier Colmenares, also a party-list representative of Bayan Muna and PSC Chairman Ricardo Garcia.-Marlon Bernardino-
