NATIONAL PRIMARY AND SECONDARY CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS SLATED IN PANGASINAN

The 2012 National Primary and Secondary Chess Championships gets underway on November 27 ? December 2 in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

A joint project of the Department of Education (DEPED) through the initiative of Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), headed by its president, Prospero A. Pichay, Jr., the tournament is open to all public and private elementary and high schools nationwide.

The event will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Cultural Complex in cooperation with and will be hosted by the provincial government of Pangasinan, headed by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., with the assistance of provincial administrator Rafael Baraan and provincial board secretary Atty. Verna Nava-Perez.

Each participating school may enter boys and girls teams composed of three to four players who will compete in a seven-round swiss system. Team results will be based on the total scores of the top three members of a school or team. Each player must be a member in good standing of the NCFP.

The competition will be played in standard, rapid and blitz events, separately. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be at stake in all events, in addition to cash prizes.
