Allan Drueco is First Filipino to Qualify for ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship

Manila -- FILIPINO Allan Drueco is headed to the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Submission Wrestling World Championship next year in Brazil.

This after Drueco topped the advanced Male category in the just ended Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Asia-Pacific World Qualifying Trials (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) at the SM Mall of Asia, Music Hall, Pasay City on Sunday.

He beat his fellow Kamphius-Fabricio Team mate Casey Cruz in the Under 76.9 kg. "I'm so happy for my latest victory," he said.

This is the first time that the Philippines will send its representative to the World Championships according to ADCC Asia President Stephen Kamphuis.

Multi-tilist Southeast Asian Games wrestling champion Marcus Valda, meantime is assured of at least a bronze medal after beating Hyunkas Park of Korea, over 99 kg.

Neil Fereira of Team Kamphius-Fabricio is also assured of another bronze for the country by crushing Eazy Awan of BJJ Borneo in the 87.9 kg.

However, multi-titlist SEA Games judo champion John Baylon suferred a heart-breaking loss to Thailand bet Ben Aldridge of Tiger Muay-Thai, 7-2, in the 87.9 kg.

Last Saturday night, Jerry Legaspi of Team Kamphius-Fabricio won his second gold medal in the Male Masters Beginner division Under 76 Kg. The Quezon City ace Legaspi dealt Lorenzo Ayco of Pages Brothers BJJ-Cebu.

Legaspi, earlier won country's first gold medal by defeating Jumat Lies Mansor of BJJ Borneo-Malaysia in the finals, 7-5, in the Male Masters Beginner division Under 76.9 kg.

Other notable gold medallist were Andy Wang of Taiwan (Beginners, Under 87.9 kg), Herbert Locre (Juniors U-60 kg), Angie Bartholorew of Borneo (Female Beginners U-58 kg), Nicholas Ooi of Evolve MMA-Singapore (Female Beginners over 100 kg), Kiung Jung of Korea (Beginners, U-65.9 kg), Kim Kook of Korea (Beginners, U-87.9 kg), Marc Lim of Team Kamphius-Fabricio (Beginners, U-70 kg), Michael Lim of Team Kamphius-Fabricio (Juniors, U-65 kg).
