BANGKOK, Thailand - Thai challenger Pungluang Sor Singyu, the 24 year-old world's #2 bantamweight soon to be in the ring exchanging serious blows with talented Filipino AJ "Bazooka" Banal has sweated his last training session here in his native Thailand and in matter of hours the Thai boxer will be flying with his boxing team to Manila, Philippines for the most important and exciting combat of his life -- his fight for the vacant WBO bantamweight world title this Saturday night.

The training, directed by head coach Romeo Desabille, has been in the very final stretch, consisting of sprint runs, flexibility exercises as well as the final rounds with the heavy bag and time with his Wing equipment for the fine tuning of uppercuts and hooks (see photos).

At the same time, the Thai's diet has been adjusted and sparring sessions completely cut as the focus is now on getting into flexibility and speed and getting the right weight, which on weigh-in day must be inside the 8 stone 6 lbs (53,525 kg - 118 lbs).

During his weeks of training here in Thailand, Pungluang Sor Singyu (42-1, 27KO's), has been assisted by the professional and charming former fighter Romeo Desabille and head sparring partner 20 year-old Filipino southpaw prospect Jerwin Ancajas (15-1, 7KO's); and despite culture and language differences the three men bonded well, eloquent proof that the sport transcends all barriers.

Pungluang has looked fast and strong, said his Filipino sparring partner:

"He is got power and knows how to fight. His blows are solid and precise. Because Pungluang studies my body movements and waits for openings and targets. Of course, I throw so many punches at him too," commented Jerwin Ancajas, a talented and fast super flyweight who weeks ago knocked out in round 10 tough Sonora fighter Miguel Tamayo.

Meanwhile, the shy and soft spoken challenger Pungluang Sor Singyu, fighting for a first time for a World Championship, simply shared:

"I have my eyes in the World Title. It's my dream."

The AJ Banal vs Pungluang Sor Singyu for the WBO Bantamweight World Title, will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila this coming Saturday October 20. It is the main event in the card billed as "Pinoy Pride XVII," a boxing series in the Philippines produced by ALA Promotions of boxing patron Antonio L. Aldeguer.

The fight will be beamed LIVE in the Kingdom of Thailand on NBT Channel 11 this Saturday Oct 20 @ 9:30pm (Thailand Time).

CONCLUSIONS

This author had unprecedented access to Pungluang Sor Singyu training sessions in Suan Luang, Kingdom of Thailand, witnessing that the Thai warrior appears in good shape and spirits, fully committed to his craft, as he should be.

His much awaited tangle with the skillful and tough world's #1 Bantamweight AJ "Bazooka" Banal (28-1-1, 20KO's) for the vacant WBO Bantamweight title has the potential of being one of the best bantamweight fights of the year and a real treat to fans.
