Friendly Venezuelan boxer Jean Piero Perez Delighted Face Melindo in Pinoy Pride XVI

Melindo to face Friendly Venezuelan. During a Pinoy Pride XVI presscon today at the Baseline Restaurant, Venezuelan Jean Piero Perez showed boxing scribes a very friendly personality while expressing his delight to box rising star Milan Melindo for the International flyweight Title this Saturday (Sept 22) at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu.
Jean Piero Perez said that he has been enjoying a friendly and kind treatment from the Cebuanos. About his first days in the country, the Venezuelan shared that "what I like the most about the Philippines is the wonderful People. Feels like being at home. Since my arrival last Friday (Sept 14), Filipinos have been cool and kind to me. The promoter is treating me very well. It motivates me to give a great show to fans."
Perez, the father of two kids, added that he has not watch any video from the popular Milan Melindo, mainly "because fights are different and boxers change with time."
In fact, the Venezuelan ex WBA champion mentioned that he does not have the habit of watching videos of opponents. His preference is knowing them in the ring.
However, Perez, 30, acknowledged knowing that the undefeated Melindo is a very good fighter. Perez heard those good comments from his fellow stablemate Panamanian fighter Carlos "Shanghai" Melo. "Melo told me that Melindo is a very good."
"El Metodico," then a rookie boxer, handsomely defeated the Panamanian Melo in a 12-round unanimous decision, four years ago in Cebu.
Perez, who got interested in boxing from his uncle who was a boxer, represented his native land of Venezuela in international amateur competitions and became member of the Venezuela boxing National Team.
While in competition he became friends with fellow team member, the late Edwin Valero, that sensational Venezuelan 2-division world champion who won all his fights by way of knockout.
"He (Edwin Valero) was my friend, my fellow Venezuelan and a good guy. An incredible fighter. His tragic death while so young and a champion hurt me. Some times life of boxers some times is very difficult."
On a question from a Philboxing reporter about his thoughts on the political situation in Venezuela, which is notoriously tense, Perez said that he does not think more about politics. Instead, he prefer thinking about family and sports.
"Well, I love my mother, my family and children and my country, but could not care much about politics and politicians.
"They (politicians) might be interested in you when its election time and want your vote. Then, forget us." This comment earn some applauses from the distinguished audience.
Jean Piero Perez is accompanied in Cebu by his head trainer Panamanian Francisco "Tolete" Arroyo, 51, who has been at his side through victories and defeats; and Dr. Lucio Lan Mejia, 52, a Panama medical doctor, cut-man, assistant and diet expert.
The Perez team is in high spirits always as jokes and good humor don't stop. During their spare time, Team team goes around Cebu, learning about this historic and shopping bags for their ladies at the I.T. Park open air market.
In closing the presscon, Perez invited fans to the great night of boxing:
"I wish to invite fans to a great Pinoy Pride show on Saturday night. Please come to support your favorite local fighter and have a good time. I am sure it will be a great show."
Jean Piero Perez will host a public work out for fans to see him during a open work out. Fans will have the chance to talk to Jean Piero, see him training, take photos and earn free tickets for Pinoy Pride XVI
Perez's public work out will be at SM Mall 5PM Today (Sept 19).
