Legendary Mexican fighter Erik "El Terrible" Morales made a brief pause in his training for the opening of his boxing gym. 'The Erik Morales Gym' to be managed by his wife Andrea, is located in Erik's native Tijuana and is hoped to be a total success.
The opening ceremony yesterday was attended by family and friends of the boxer; and the gym and attendants were blessed by a catholic priest who prayed for the good future of the venture.
"This gym is for children from age four, ladies and adults. My goal is that people will come to practice sport, learn self-defense and acquire knowledge of boxing," said the charismatic Erik Morales, 35, one of the most beloved sport figures in Mexico.
The ever popular "Terrible," a champion in four weight divisions, is currently training for his much awaited rematch against unified WBA/WBC super lightweight world champion Danny Garcia on October 20 in New York.
Danny Garc?a (24-0, 15KO's) is the undefeated American of Puerto Rican parents who recently knocked out the much hyped former champ Amir Khan.
Erik Morales (52-8, 36KO's) lost by points to Garc?a last March in a combat in which Morales was overweight and arguably not in top shape.
The reason: prior to his fight against Garc?a, Morales had an operation on his gall bladder and might not had enough time to recover.
Will "El Terrible" in good form be able to re-capture his super lightweight world title? We'll find out. The Garc?a-Morales rematch is expected to be one of the most intriguing fights this fall.
