WBO Featherweight World Champion Orlando "Siri" Salido of Ciudad Obreg?n, M?xico scaled-in 130 lbs (58.960 kgs) while his opponent Chile's Mois?s Guti?rrez weighed 129 lbs (58.510 kgs) ahead of their non-title 10-round super featherweight match tomorrow at El Palenque de la Feria in Tepic, Nayarit, M?xico.
The fight marks Salido's return to the ring after his thrilling knockout victory over the popular Puertorrican star Juan Manuel "Juanma" L?pez last March at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In that memorable second fight against the Juanma, "Siri" Salido had gone down to the canvas in round five. But the tough Mexican veteran stood up and went on in a toe-to-toe combat with the younger Juanma, brutalizing him and finally stopping him in round ten.
However, prior to that huge scintillating win over Juanma, Salido had serious trouble in dealing with Cebuano kid Weng Haya (15-5, 8KOs) in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora last december as Haya shocked the world by downing world champ Salido in round 3, and then again in round 4.
It was about the be the shocker of the year, but Salido regrouped, reached deep down into his awesome experience and big heart and managed to destroyed the brave inexperienced Weng Haya in round eight. It was quite a ride.
Nevertheless, at his 31 years of age, WBO world champ "Siri" Salido still feels that he has much to do in the sport of boxing, being one of his goals to unify his featherweight title against any of the other featherweight champions or going to Jr. lightweight division.
Salido (38-11-2, 26KOs) has shared that he would not mind unifying against compatriot WBC king Jhonny Gonzalez, should Gonz?lez passes through rough veteran warrior Daniel Ponce de Leon on September 15.
After the weight-in Salido said:
English: "We did thorough preparation, a top one, without underestimating the opponent so as to unify the Featherweight title Pen, or going after the super featherweight championship. I can not afford trips, I am going for the victory and I guarantee all of you a great fight."
The featherweight (126 lbs) world champions are WBA champion Celestino "Pelench?n" Caballero of Panama, veteran Chris John, WBC Johnny Gonz?lez, and IBF Billy Dib of Australia.
Super featherweight (130 lbs) world champs: WBA Takashi Uchiyama of Japan, WBO Adrien Broner, WBC Takahiro Aoh of Japan and IBF Juan Carlos Salgado of Mexico.
Meanwhile, the little known 33 year-old Chilean Mois?s Guti?rrez (21-4, 8KOs) comes to his important battle against Salido after victories over his last five opponents, all in his hometown of Santiago, the beautiful capital of Chile. Two of those five consecutive wins by way of knockout.
