Igarashi Dethrones Jaro; Uchiyama Retains Title Tonight in Japan

Japanese Toshiyuki Igarashi achieved the biggest win of his life by defeating on points Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro to become the New WBC Flyweight World Champion tonight in Kasukabe, Japan. Scores in the close fight were were 115-113, 116-112 (twice). Jaro was the WBC and Ring Magazine world champ.

In another result, Takashi Uchiyama retained his WBA super featherweight world title via 3rd round technical draw over Filipino Michael Farenas. Uchiyama was cut on his right eye as a result of a head butt. Time of stoppage was 1:15 of round 3.

With the result, Uchiyama scored the 5th defense of his world title. Earlier this year Uchiyama received the "WBA Asian Fighter of the Year Award."
