MANILA, Philippines - In what was undoubtedly the most exciting fight of Pinoy Pride XIV, undefeated Genesis Servania knocked out the tough and experienced Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia in the last round of their 12-round contest to capture the WBC International Silver Super Bantamweight Title Saturday night at the plush Resorts World Hotel & Casino in Manila, thus becoming a rising star in the bantamweight division.
Fans were thrilled by the very intense and furious combat, which was in contrast with the prior five fights of the card which were all extremely boring fights. But the Servania-Garcia was a combat in a different level.
It was a war raged on furiously since the first bell and kept the gas pedal down until the arrival of last round.
Up to those final three minutes of fight either warrior still have the chance to emerge victorious as the fight has been very competitive and extremely tough for both.
But a violent four punch combination consisting of a left uppercut, a straight, plus a vicious hook, followed by a brutal well directed right blow thrown by Servania created a huge damage on the exhausted veteran Mexican and down he went.
Indeed, Garcia had spent enormous amounts of energy during the previous torrid rounds.
From that moment on, Garcia's fate was sealed. He went down near Servania's corner to receive the count of top referee Bruce McTavish. The brave Poblanito stood up and a quick barrage of more horrific punishment sent him against the ropes and down to the canvas the second time around near his own blue corner. Garcia was really hurt.
That was it. McTavish had seen enough and waived the Mexican off, thus declaring the technical KO at 2:02 of the twelve round.
It was a great victory for the young Servania and his trainer Edito Villamor who deserves much credit for the resounding triumph.
Villamor not only controlled the two cuts suffered by Servania, but gave the right instructions that made the difference between victory of defeat.
In addition, Servania showed a lion's heart in facing a dangerous tested enemy thirsty for victory. The Cebu resident also displayed a top physical preparation. The excellent fitness of Servania, combined with his youth and boxing skills played huge part in the rewarding title win.
Yet, "Azucal" Servania still has much to learn. At 20-years of age no fighter knows everything. But Genesis is in excellent hands with experienced ALA coaches Edmundo and Edito Villamor.
Importantly, this hard-fought victory has been an very important teaching experience for Servania and certainly is also a boost to his own confidence as a fighter, that with his natural talent, hard work, well-guided he can achieve awesome goals in the sport of boxing.
However, the young Bacolod-born Filipino, ended the war with a huge gash on his right eyebrow, which was the result of an accidental head butt. Servania also suffered another smaller wound above his left eyebrow.
Meanwhile, the 34 year-old fallen opponent "El Poblanito" Genaro Garcia really had the guts and skills to force intense eleven rounds on a young warrior as Servania.
In fact, there were times in which Garcia worried Filipino fans as the Mexican was taken home some middle rounds and continued battling relentlessly and at times very effective.
Therefore, it fair to say that "El Poblanito" Garcia's preceding reputation for bravery is well-deserved.
He never stopped throwing punches and after falling to the canvas in he last round, hurt, with groggy head and unstable legs, he stood up and went on to engage, if only to receive more punishment.
After the fight, a standing audience of satisfied fans applauded both warriors for the enormous gallant effort.
"The kid (Servania) is strong. I felt him stronger than (Toshiaki) Nishioka," said Garcia afterwards.
"El Poblanito" and his team accepted defeat as good sportsmen and commented that the popular Mexican warrior is continuing with his boxing career.
Arturo Contreras, the Mexican boxing reporter of the TV promotions boxing series "Boxeo de Gala," who accompanied the Mexican fighters from the far away land of Pancho Villa to the country of Dr. Jose Rizal, commented to PhilBoxing that:
"Poblanito" Garcia is returning to the ring in Mexico in September. He wants to go on. Fans like him. We'll schedule him in our boxing cards. I think Garcia has now more fans and friends."
Contreras, in his first trip to the Philippines, added that the whole Mexican team is "grateful with the experience of visiting the great land of the Philippines and and meeting the wonderful filipino people."
"It was a blessing to visit the Philippines, it's the land of Manny Pacquiao! Pacquiao will KO Bradley, I think. We wish to come back some day."
"Pinoy Pride XIV: Night of Champions" was a production of ALA Boxing Promotions in association with ABS-CBN Sports.
