Philippine GAB Light Welterweight Champion Adones "The Undertaker" Cabalquinto will take another challenge as he faces the more experienced Jaypee Ignacio in a ten round non-title fight. The event is one of the featured highlights of the Barangay Boat Festival in Honor of St. Peter Thelmo on May 11. The fight entitled "Dinnanogan Ditoy Aparri ? Ang Pagbabalik ng Boksing" will be staged at the Aparri Public Gym and is made possible by the very dynamic Mayor Dr. Ismael V. Tumaru, MD.
Cabalquinto is fresh from his victory over hard hitting Dan Nazareno in a fight staged in Cebu. According to Manager and Promoter Joven Jimenez, this will be another test for Adones before he defends his belt against a ranked opponent or probably fight for a regional title depending on the next move of International Promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
"I think that I am still a greenhorn. I need more experience. But I am also open to fighting a foreign opponent next because there are only few of us in the 140 lbs division here in the Philippines. I know Jaypee and he has power. That is why I am not taking him lightly", Cabalquinto told Philboxing.
Mayor Tumaru has expressed his plan to stage more fights in Aparri. He is an avid fan and supporter of boxing and plans to encourage local talents from his town and scout for the next boxing hero to follow the footsteps of Pacquiao, Donaire, Penalosa and other Pinoy boxing icons.
Also featured in the undercards are exciting fights between Vincent Palicte vs. Ricky Oyan, Ninoval Falcunaya vs. Jeron Palaman, Edwin Frial vs. Jhon Rey Canete, and Richie Behec vs. Jestoni Racoma. The fight will be shown free to the public.
