THE ‘Baby Face’ Joey Canoy is now training back at the Sanman Boxing Gym in General Santos City.

After more than a month of rest due to the death of his child last September 8, Canoy is back hitting the bags.

In his last fight, Canoy stopped Minh Phat Sam of Vietnam in the 10th round to win the WBC International minimumweight title last April 27 in General Santos City.

Canoy is only 32 years old and is still in his prime age. He has 24 wins with 15 knockouts against five losses and two draws.

He was supposed to fight against International Boxing Federation [IBF] International minimumweight champion Beaven “The One” Sibanda [9-1-0, 3KOs] of Zimbabwe on October 4 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Canoy again resumed his training at the Sanman Gym with his trainer Markquil Salvana.

“Canoy is preparing again against Sibanda in February,” said Sanman Boxing president JC Manangquil, who is back from South Africa.

It was a “bad trip” in SA as former OPBF bantamweight champion Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar of Polomolok lost to Charlton Malajika by a 4th round TKO last October 4 at Emperors Palace.

Saludar was supposed to avenge the loss suffered by stabemate RV Deniega of Gensan by a unanimous decision last July 5 for the vacant IBO World Youth bantamweight title in SA.
