Global Stars Set to Shine as 2025 Hanoi Open Pool Championship Breaks Off in Vietnam

The 2025 Hanoi Open Pool Championship is ready to cue off tomorrow at the Vietnam National Sports Complex, bringing together the world’s best cue artists for six days of elite competition, electric atmosphere, and record-breaking participation.
Now entering its third edition under the World Nineball Tour (WNT) and organized in partnership with Vietcontent, the Hanoi Open has rapidly established itself as one of the most anticipated events on the global billiards calendar. Running from October 7–12, this year’s tournament features a $200,000 prize fund, a 256-player field, and representatives from over 40 nations, including 68 players from Vietnam — a testament to the country’s fast-growing prominence in professional pool.

Filipino sensation Johann Chua, who captured his first Matchroom Major title in Hanoi last year, returns to defend his crown with confidence and emotion.
“Winning in Hanoi last year changed my career — and my life,” said Chua. “The atmosphere, the crowd, the passion — it all pushed me to play my best pool. Coming back here as defending champion means a lot to me, and I’m ready to fight for the title again in front of these amazing fans.”
Carrying the hopes of the host nation, Dương Quốc Hoàng aims to deliver Vietnam’s first major international victory on home soil.
“The Hanoi Open reminds us that Vietnam has everything it takes — passion, talent, and the will to rise,” he said. “Every year, this event brings out the best in us and shows the world what Vietnamese pool can be.”
The tournament’s star-studded lineup includes World No. 1 Fedor Gorst, former Hanoi Open champion Jayson Shaw, reigning world champion Carlo Biado, three-time major winner Aloysius Yapp, and Spain’s Francisco Sánchez Ruiz — each eager to lift the Hanoi trophy.
Gorst, the sport’s top-ranked player, called Hanoi “the biggest event in Vietnam” and praised the country’s passionate fans. Shaw, meanwhile, said he’s “hungrier than ever” after finishing fifth last year. Biado described the Hanoi Open as “one of the most competitive and exciting tournaments in the world,” while Yapp credited the event for “elevating the sport” and vowed to keep his recent hot streak alive.
Beyond the competition, organizers highlighted the event’s deeper mission. Mrs. Trần Thùy Chi, President and CEO of Vietcontent, said the championship “is not only an international sporting event of the highest caliber but also one that carries a profound social purpose.”
“Through this tournament, we aspire for sport to be more than just a stage for competition — it should be a bridge that spreads positive energy and compassion throughout the community,” she added.
Emily Frazer, CEO of Matchroom Multi Sport, expressed her excitement for the event’s third edition:
“The Hanoi Open continues to grow every year; it gets bigger, better, and more thrilling with each edition,” Frazer said. “This year’s field is our largest yet — over 40 nationalities and 68 players from Vietnam. Get ready — this week in Hanoi is going to be something special.”

Fans worldwide can watch the action live through an extensive broadcast network. Full event coverage (October 7–12) will air on WNT TV globally, with additional streams on Vietnam Billiards Promotion’s YouTube channel and VTVcab domestically.
Final weekend coverage (October 11–12) will also air via Fox Sports (Australia), Sky Network (New Zealand), Viaplay (Scandinavia & Europe), Sportcast (Taiwan), Rigour (China), and Nova (Czech Republic & Slovakia).
Table 1 will serve as the main broadcast table, Table 2 will feature on WNT TV, and Table 3 will stream free on Matchroom Pool’s YouTube channel.
