Michael Domingo successfully defended his Philippine Bantamweight Crown by winning via split decision over Johnny Lear at the Metropolis Mall in Ayala, Alabang in Metro Manila last night.
Reports coming from the ringside indicate a very close fight throughout. There were no knockdowns but Domingo's aggressiveness gave him the nod of the two judges even though his face was swollen towards the end of the fight as a result of Johnny Lear's accurate snipings.
The scores were 117-111, 115-112, 113-114 in favor of Domingo.
Domingo, who TKO'd in the 7th round visiting Mexican Alejandro Felix Montiel only last July 2 in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Larios Mano-A-Mano boxing event at the Araneta Coliseum, now upped his record to 29-13-3 with 11 KOs and is now 8-0 since taking shelter under the wings of the ALA boxing stable.
Johnny Lear, who won 5 straight fights after embarking on a comeback in 2005 under the Charlie Gamboa stable, saw his momentum stifled and now dropped his record to 15-12-1 with 5 KOs.
