"El Nica" Concepcion Captures WBC Latino Title, Willing to Fight Sonny Boy Jaro (VIDEO)

In quick display of power, former flyweight world champion Luis "El Nica" Concepcion of Panama needed less than three minutes to destroy Oscar Gallardo of Sonora, Mexico to capture the WBC Latino flyweight title last night at the Roberto Duran Arena in Ciudad de Panama.

From the first bell, "El Nica" Concepcion aggressively stalked an elusive Oscar Gallardo, who attempted to keep the hard-hitting Panamanian at bay with lateral movement and timid jab, but without engagement in close quarter combat.

But Concepcion kept pressing forward trying to cut the distance while dishing out overhead blows, as well as left hooks and straight rights over the taller Gallardo.

At the 2 minute mark of the first round Referee Abdiel Barragan correctly timed out to demand more action from Gallardo, who appeared unwilling to get into a dangerous cross fire.

Seconds after warning, Concepcion unleashed a power damaging combination of left hook followed by a right uppercut, which forced the Mexican to the canvas for the first time.

After the protection count, it all seemed matter of time for El Nica Concepcion to finish his demolition job, which he successfully did with another vicious well-placed right uppercut to the chin of Gallardo who fell on his back in the neutral corner.

The brave Mexican stumblingly managed to get up, but the third man Sr. Barragan had seen enough violence and correctly halted all action to spare Oscar Gallardo of unnecessary punishment, thus declaring Luis "El Nica" Concepcion winner by technical KO at the 3:00 minute mark of round one.

Last week, "El Nica" Concepcion together with Mexican Hernan "Tyson" Marquez received the prestigious "Fight of the Year" award for their thrilling 2011 battle for the flyweight world title.

As of now, "El Nica" Concepcion is currently world ranked as WBA #11, WBO #5, WBC #12 in the flyweight division. He is also a former WBA world champion, has been Boxrec #1 flyweight and is the new WBC Flyweight Latino Champ.

With last night's KO win, "El Nica" Concepcion, 26, aims at positioning himself as a future challenger of the newly crowned WBC flyweight world champion, Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro (34-10-5, 24KOs).

Meanwhile, Sonny Boy Jaro, who defeated the "WBC Fighter of the decade" Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in a dramatic 6th round KO, has been required by the the WBC to make his first defense against mandatory challenger the Japanese Toshiyuki Igarashi (15-1-1, 10KOs).

If Sonny Boy Jaro retains his WBC flyweight title in his mandatory fight against Igarashi, Concepcion would be delighted to fight the tough Filipino in the Philippines or Panama.

An exchange of fire between the Sonny Boy and "El Nica" would be an intense exciting battle of power as both warriors are crowd pleasing sluggers who invariably charge forward throwing nuclear bombs in close-quarter combat.
