Garcia (R) and Landero battle it out in Tijuana.
Former Mexican world champions Tomas "Gusano" Rojas, Raul "Rayito" Garcia and Fernando "Kochulito" Montiel won in convincing and exciting fashion their respective combats tonight in two different Mexican cities.

In an intense super bantamweight 10-round clash, former super flyweight champion Tomas "El Gusano" Rojas of Veracruz, Mexico, scored a well-deserved unanimous decision victory over Julio "La Sombra" Zarate tonight in Tijuana.

Tomas "El Gusano" (The Worm) Rojas, who years ago lost to legendary Filipino Gerry Pe?alosa, was tonight too slick and smart over his aggressive opponent former champion Julio "La sombra" Zarate, a tough warrior of will and guts but without the ring savvy nor speed to control Rojas, who took almost all rounds.

Rojas vs Lazarte.

Minutes before the Rojas victory, Raul "Rayito" Garcia, the former WBO/IBF ligh flyweight world champion, easily defeated Filipino Michael Landero via 3rd round KO also in Tijuana.

Raul "Rayito" Garcia, who last year visited Cebu and Bacolod, caught Landero with solid hands that staggered the Pinoy, sending him to the ropes.

Landero appeared in trouble and tried to clinch, but referee Juanjo Ramirez waved the combat off at the 1:49 minute mark, stoppage which in the opinion of ringside analyst Julio Cesar Chavez was "a little bit too soon."

The stoppage might have been a bit too early, but the final result would have been the same.

Thanks to this fine performance, Raul "Rayito" Garcia, 29, is now expected to fight fellow countryman WBO world champion Moises Fuentes in a rematch for the minimum weight (105 lbs) world title.

Montiel (R) vs Angkota.

Meanwhile in Mazatlan, "El Kochulito" Fernando Montiel (47-4-2, 37KOs), known for his devastating KO lost to the "Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire, this time emerged victorious as the former champion from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, delivered a 9th round technical KO to his less talented opponent Indonesia's Angky Angkota (25-7, 14KOs).

The climax of the combat came by the end of round nine with Montiel scored a crushing left upper cut which sent the indonesian to the canvas where he remained and was counted off.

During the combat Montiel made better use of his experience, more accomplished skills, power and good conditioning to completely dominate the aggressive indonesian Angkota, a colorful fighter who in the past has been a victim of veteran Jorge "El Travieso" Arce and the talented world class Cebuano AJ "Bazooka" Banal.

After this KO win, El Kochulito Montiel, 33, aspires to continue in boxing with the aim at fighting again for a world title.
