Rated Bantamweight Monico Laurente of the Elorde Boxing Stable stopped Adelino Balongcas in the sixth round as they headlined Boxing Kontra Droga at the Elorde Sports Center in Para?aque City yesterday. Laurente who hails from Palompon, Leyte and younger brother of welterweight contender Dennis Laurente sent Balongcas to the canvass in the fifth round which stunned the brave Cavite?o. Sensing danger and unnecessary punishment, Balongcas called it the night and quitted on his stool before the start of the sixth round. Laurente improves his record to W21 (KO5) L7 D0. It was an action packed bout as both boxers rallied with wild shots and traded popping power punches.
In the co-main event, Ryan Origenes of Elorde Stable dominated Vic Racoma and won handily by unanimous decision. Racoma was game with his awkward fighting style but a cut caused by an accidental head butt in the early rounds made it hard for him to evade the power punches of Origenes.
In the undercards, Orlan Vasquez won by unanimous decision over JR Estrimos in close match. Estrimos entered the ring as the more powerful fighter but Vasquez showed technical maturity in gaining points on the judges? score cards.
Onyok Velasco Prot?g? Roman ?D Sniper? Canto took advantage of his height advantage in outgunning Mark Joseph Costa of the Jaro Stable. Canto played the game from the outside while the brave Costa pressured the lankier fighter against the ropes. In the end, it was Canto via unanimous decision.
In the other bouts, Randy Braga won by unanimous decision over Vergel Puton. Jonathan Ligas escaped with a split decision victory over Esteban Hayahay. Jeffrey Francisco defeated Roy Lagrada via unanimous decision. And in the curtain raiser Jay Mindoro of Elorde Stable escaped with a Majority Decision over Gilber Diorico of Mandaluyong City.
Boxing Kontra Droga was presented by Johnny Elorde Management International. Present in the event were Johnny Elorde himself and her very charming wife Liza Elorde. Also in attendance were Olympic Silver Medalist Mansueto ?Onyok? Velasco and Ring Magazine correspondent Ryan Songalia.
