Filipino Roilo Golez will battle former world champion Mexico's Sammy Guti?rrez (29-6-2, 20KOs) for the vacant WBC Silver light flyweight (108 lbs) title on October 1 in Puebla, Mexico, Mexican promotions company Promociones del Pueblo has informed.

"Yes, Roilo Golez will fight in Mexico. We are now processing our papers," re-confirmed Filipino promoter and matchmaker Brico Santig to Philboxing today.

Roilo "The Phoenix" Golez (12-6, 4KOs) of Maco, Compostela Valley, comes from a spectacular round 10 KO victory over Thailand's Asian champ Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo last July in Samut Sakhon, Thailand.

In that astonishing victory the 24-year-old Golez claimed the WBC Asian Boxing Council mimumumweight (105 lbs) title.

That afternoon behind enemy lines Golez showed a huge warrior's heart and tough determination against a more accomplished opponent and after grueling rounds of war Golez emerged victorious.

The young Filipino's only ally was matchmaker and cornerman fellow Pinoy Brico Santig of Baguio who will accompany him to Puebla.

Again behind enemy lines, Golez's dangerous new enemy will be brawler Sammy "Guty" Guti?rrez, 25, of Puebla, M?xico, who is the former interim WBA World minimumweight champion and current WBC world's #4 light flyweight fighter.

Both Golez and Guti?rrez are orthodox boxers who stand 1.60m (5' 3"). However, the Mexican is by far the more experienced warrior.

Indeed, Guti?rrez, who is promoted by Mexico's Promociones del Pueblo, has battled fighters of the level of Nicaragua's Juan Palacios (29-3, 22KOs), undefeated South African Nkosinathi Joyi (21-0, 15KOs) and fomer champions Omar Ni?o (30-4-2, 12KOs) and Julio Cesar "Pingo" Miranda (35-6-1, 28KOs).

Last Tuesday, Guti?rrez, who is a celebrity in his native Puebla, accompanied WBC president Dr. Jos? Sulaim?n in his weekly reunion with boxing reporters. During the meeting Guti?rrez commented that "having a WBC title is the desire of any fighter in the world and I am no exception."

"El Guty", who trains at the Pancho Rosales Gym in Colonia Tr?nsito, Ciudad de M?xico, plans to defeat the young pinoy so as to position himself as the mandatory challenger of fellow Mexican WBC flyweight champion Adri?n "Confesor" Hern?ndez.

Guti?rrez might have those plans as he has already defeated a Filipino challenger. In February of this year, Guti?rrez knocked out Palawan's Renan Trongco (9-3, 6KOs) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

However, in that fight the filipino Renan Trongco knocked down Guti?rrez in the very first round. It was a potent well-placed straight left from Trongco the huge shot that sent the Mexican to the canvas. The Mexican was close to lose his title in that opening stanza.

However, Guty's good conditioning, strenght and experience made him the winner of that tough February night title fight at the Polideportivo Municipal in Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires.
