The surname Pe?alosa will always be a household name in the world of boxing and nothing can ever change that fact. From Mr. Carl Pe?alosa who started building the name as a regional champion and world title contender, to Light Flyweight and Flyweight World Champion Dodie Boy Pe?alosa, to Super Flyweight and Bantamweight World Champion Gerry Pe?alosa, a new generation boxing star has been born in the person of Dodie Boy Pe?alosa Jr.
Having 4 wins all by knockouts, 3 of which at the first round, Dodie Boy Jr. is the highest paid upcoming boxer at his level. He is a certified celebrity at this early stage in his career. This early success being enjoyed by the young Pe?alosa has been brought about by his excellent amateur record and of course due to the strong foundation that his folks have built in the world of boxing. His uncle Jonathan and father Dodie Boy have been co-trainers of WBO and WBC Bantamweight Champ Nonito Donaire Jr. Another uncle Gerry has been active in the boxing scene as a promoter, boxing writer and owner of several boxing gyms. They remained essential pillars in Philippine Boxing.
Dodie Boy Jr. has been enlisted in the Philippine Olympic Boxing Team and added to our country?s hope of bagging its first Olympic Gold Medal. But boxing is a vocation, and Dodie Boy Jr?s calling was to shine and build his name in the arena of professional boxing. Bearing the already famous name of his father and uncle Gerry, it has so far been an easy road for Dodie Boy Jr. to get the name recall and media attention. But on the other side, much is being expected from the young lad from Cebu. Fans, journalists and aficionados of the sweet science want to see him live up to his surname and fight like the warrior that his Uncle and Father are, or otherwise be labeled as another bum or overrated novice.
On June 25, 2011 at the Cebu Coliseum, Dodie Boy Pe?alosa Jr. will once again step up on the ring and prove his worth against a formidable opponent in veteran Jeffrey Jimenez. He is definitely the favorite in this match-up but what remains to be seen is how he will deliver another win and the level of excitement he can bring to every boxing fan in attendance.
His Father predicts a knock out just like his other wins. We also want to see knockout. The Pinoy Boxing fans are still hungry for more exciting champions who can waive our Flag high in the manner that Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr has been doing in the present. We all have our eyes set on this new breed of a PE?ALOSA.
