Games and Amusements Board Chairman Eric R. Buhain accompanied WBC light-flyweight champ Brian Viloria yesterday to pay a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacanang .

At exactly 1:30 pm Viloria met with the President at the Heroes Hall and was warmly received by all the staff and other top officials of the government including some members of the cabinet. Also in attendance were the champion's father Ben Viloria from Ilocos province, Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita , Sec. Toting Bunye of the Press, Governor Chavit Singson of Ilocos, Sec.Favila, PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez, Sec.Milton Lingod, Solar Sports William Cheng and the Presidential Chief of Staff Mike Defensor.

With flying colors , Viloria had successfully defended his WBC belt against Jose Antonio "El Jaguar" Aguirre of Mexico and was congratulated personally by Her Excellency the President as the chief executive cited the highest honor his remarkable achievements in pro boxing brought to the country.

One light moment at the courtesy visit of Viloria in Malacanang took place when the President presented Viloria a cake fashioned in the image of the WBC belt by the chefs of the palace presented as a token to the "Hawaiian Punch".

And all of those who were there got to taste the cake, including the members of the Malacanang press people. Records of the GAB will show that Viloria now is really our world champion.Other top calibered world class Filipino fighters are yet to grab world boxing titles in their respective weight categories. But we have a lot of regionally sanctioned champions and top rated in the world such as Boom2x Bautista ,Jimrex Jaca , Z Gorres, Czar Amonsot ,Bobby Pacquiao ,Rodel Mayol among others and most of all our highly regarded People's champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao who is a mandatory contender as far as the WBC is concerned.

Chairman Buhain on his part stated that, "let us leave no stone unturned to continue the President's sporting agenda to produce more champions for global recognition" as the upcoming GAB 1st Philippine Boxing Convention's theme suggests.

By the way, as an update to the upcoming April 18-21st 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention, our Committee on Secretariat at the main office here in Makati City is willing to entertain questions and suggestions to would-be participants or delegates. We are already in the stage of finalizing many aspects for the projected success of this convention. Of course we need the full support and cooperation coming from all the boxing communities of the country. This affair is for everybody in boxing and for the betterment of our professional boxing. More on this on the next issue of the Commissioner's corner.
