In answering the call of the time and setting a new trend towards enhancing the professional boxing program of the country, the Games and Amusements Board yesterday approved the accreditation of the Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) including its regional arm in Asia, the Women Asian Boxing Association (WABA) as the first to get the nod of the Board after it opened the gates for professional female boxing in the Philippines about two (2) weeks ago.

In a unanimous resolution signed by the three-member team GAB agency under the Office of the President headed by Chairman Eric R.Buhain, the WIBA-WABA is now given the go signal to conduct and promote female pro fights in the country subject to the sanctioning by the GAB .

Chairman Buhain after restating the Board's approval said, "Without prejudice to the future application of other pro women boxing federations for this Board's approval, we have to do it now to commence the activity of female fights in the Philippines".

The prime interests of the GAB as the watchdog of the President duly authorized and empowered to regulate and supervise the conduct of all professional sports in the country, is in subscription to the national government's agenda to pump prime the economy through income generation by way of additional taxation schemes and at the same time enrich our goal to advance the campaign for the development of more pro sports.

With this development, the arena now for women boxing in the Philippines is open. Meaning to say, we are now opening the flood gate of future opportunities as an avenue for the promoters, managers, referee-judges and those who are already in the aspects of pro boxing community to grab the momentum. I have seen a lot of amateur female boxers who have won Gold Medals and their performances based on tactical trainings should be enough to be included as future women pro fighters.

We have already as a nation proven our worth and might when it comes to male pro boxing since the time of Pancho Villa, The Great Flash Elorde down to the Pacman generation. What we really need now as a matter of interest is to solidify our common strength to show our best to the world this time for women professional boxers as international champions maybe in a year or two.

This writer as commissioned by the US-based WIBA and WABA being their Commissioner to the Philippines and as the Officer in Asia, with the unconditional support extended by the Board to this representation, in no doubt we can come up with a better policy statement and in due time promote more and more national fights here .

Of course, we need the collaborations of all concerned individuals and organizations both in the government and the private sectors to jointly assist in this strategic scouting of top calibered women pro boxers to be trained, compete and be rated for regional level and the world. The good news is the fact that we now have the organization to do it in the Philippines.
