Jecker Buhawe Loses Title Challenge in Thailand with Aid of Referee

KHON KAEN, Thailand -- Rookie Filipino flyweight Jecker Buhawe (11-5-1, 7KOs) gave world ranked WBC International Silver flyweight champion Panomroonglek Kaiyarn Hadaogym (33-1, 17KO's) the biggest scare of his life, nearly knocking him out two times during their 12 rounds intense battle, but Panomrookglek was able to survive the unexpected Pinoy storm to win a close unanimous desicion.
However, it appeared to the Filipinos assembled in Khon Kaen that referee Nopparat Sricharoen was ready to help his fellow countryman throughout the fast-paced non-stop action packed combat.
Most notably, Sricharoen intervened to stopped a huge rally from the Filipino Jecker in the last round at instances when the Thai fighter was being rocked severely by big combinations dished out by the shy 20-year-old Davao City kid.
With no understandably reason whatsoever, referee Sricharoen stopped the furious, dangerous attack of the Pinoy to give a huge needed break to the world ranked Kaiyarn Hadaogym. The unexplainable breather might have allowed the Thai to regain composure and finish the fight standing.
At the end of the furious war, seen live in Thailand on Channel 7, the official scores from the all-Thai panel of judges were: judge Banpote Senparb 116-112, judge Aran Nuchklang 115-113 and judge Somsri Bhusi 115-113, all in favor of Panomroonglek Kaiyarn Hadaogym, who might have lost his crown should this title fight would have been refereed by a more fair official.
"Referee not good, very bad. Every time we hit hard the Thai (fighter), the referee stopped to say something crazy... this (occurred) not one time or two times, many many times. We won most of the rounds, I believe in my heart that my boxer (Buhawe) won the fight," commented Buhawe's trainer and cornerman Jun Labandia of Baybay, Leyte.
Trainer Roy Sumile agreed. "The big moment that we are about to knock out the Thai, referee say stop stop stop, why? Not good. Two times we were going to knock him out. First in round 2. Then, in round 12. He (the referee) saved him from going down. I know we won that today."
In addition, Thai journalist Mr. Panya Prachakorn, public relations officer of the promoting company Diamond Boxing said "if the fight is in Philippines or another country, I think maybe he (Jecker Buhawe) might have won by one point or draw, because it was very close, very close, and very good fight."
Brico Santig of Baguio City, matchmaker of this entertaining bout shared the general opinion that there were times when the Thai referee sabotaged the attacks of the Filipino. "The referee (Nopparat Sricharoen) stopped every time Jecker mounted attacks that hurt the Thai", said Santig, a former Muay Thai fighter.
"We just have to take this as a lesson, learn the teaching and continue boxing, get better and become better boxer and I will continue training Jecker, he did good today, I am proud," concluded trainer Jun Labandia, trying to bring a note of positivism to feeling of dissapointment.
Nevertheless, no cuts nor knockdowns were registered during the WBC international silver title fight.
In the oher bout of the Khon Kaen card, WBC #3, WBA #8 Kompayak Porpramook (39-3, 26KO's) of Thailand won a unanimous desicion in six rounds over Filipino journeyman Michael Rodriguez (12-29) of General Santos City.
Kompayak connected the best shots throughout the interesting fight, but Rodriguez never backed away from the line of fire and often went into close quarters combat with the world rated thai warrior.
"It was clear that Kompayak won. I think it was a good fight, Michael fought well as always. Kompayak is strong, won by two points, we accept it, its ok", commented Jun Labandia, Michael's trainer and cornerman.
Also in the card, former WBC flyweight champion Medgoen Singsurat 3-K Battery (73-6, 50Ks) easily dismantled by TKO his fellow countryman 23-years-old part-time fighter part-time property agent Kan Hamonkol (1-2).
This boxing event at Khon Kaen was organized by Diamond Boxing Promotions of veteran boxing boss Mr. Virat Vachirarattanawong.
