WBC International Minimumweight Champion Denver Cuello is slowing down in the final phase of his training camp for his fight against Indonesia?s Mohamad Rachman on September 25 in Iligan City. According to Cuello?s Manager and Promoter Aljoe Jaro, Denver is only sparring 8 rounds per session and will slow down as the fight approaches. Cuello has been sparring with bigger guys in the likes of stable mate and former PABA champion Marvin Tampos.
Cuello himself told this writer that he is in his best shape ever. ?I am ready for whatever Rachman brings to the ring. I can play with him the whole 12 rounds or shorten the fight to end his agony. Rachman is a respected veteran but I am facing him with all the arsenals that I have armed myself with. I am promising the people of Iligan that this fight will be remembered and talked about. I will give them the good fight that they deserve.? Cuello is also very grateful to the generosity and warm acceptance of the people of Iligan especially for the kindness of their good Mayor Lawrence Cruz. Cuello has been declared as an adopted son of Iligan City. Also supporting this event is Mayor Rafael Risalda of Maigo, Lanao del Norte.
Jaro also told this writer that he is very positive about the outcome of this fight. ?My fighter has been working hard for this break. Denver is aware that Rachman is highly ranked by Ring Magazine and the other sanctioning bodies. He will do everything to make a strong statement about his being ready for a world title fight. And if he indeed succeeds in disposing Rachman, then I am confident that a crack at a legitimate world title is at sight. Cuello is a complete fighter, he will be a monster as he climbs higher to his prime?, Jaro said.
The people of Iligan should watch out for this event. Cuello may not be the media baby that other Pinoy boxers are but he is one of the best our country has right now. The fight will be held on September 25, 2010 at the MSU IT Gym in Iligan City. Team Rachman will arrive on September 22 in Cagayan de Oro. Weigh in and presscon will held on September 24 at Gaisano City Mall and will be open to the public. The fight will be shown via GMA-7 on a yet to be announced time.
