Cebu City- WBO Minimumweight Champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes told the author via phone that he is preparing himself for an August 14 title defense in Tijuana, Mexico against rated Mexican straw weight Mario Rodriguez. The fight will be promoted by Box Latino Promotions President Erik Morales. Although no contract has been signed yet, Nietes said the fight almost a done deal.

Nietes is currently training hard at ALA Gym under the guidance of Coach Edmund Villamor. He is currently sparring with fellow ALA Boxers Rocky Fuentes, Milan Melindo and Michael Domingo. Nietes and his trainer will leave for the U.S. on the third week of July and continue his training at the Wild Card Gym in L.A.

When asked about whether or not he is scared of losing his belt via hometown decision similar to what happened to Mayol, Donnie simply answered that there will no such thing as a hometown decision because he will knock his opponent out in order to avoid being robbed. He further added that Erik Morales is a fair promoter and has assured them of a fair choice of the judges. Nietes further revealed that he is working twice as hard because of the long lay off he had from fighting. His last fight was last January in the undercard of the Viloria fight.
