Denver Cuello was winning every round of the WBC Minimumweight Elimination against Juan Hernandez of Mexico but was disqualified in the third round when he threw a punch while the Mexican was already down on the canvass.
In an email from Cuello?s manager Aljoe Jaro, it was revealed that Denver was dominating every round of the fight and that Hernandez did not do anything but run away from the Filipino warrior. Early in round 3, Cuello caught Hernandez with a left straight to the face which had the Mexican bloodied in the nose. Cuello further inflicted a vicious left uppercut to the midsection which knocked down the Mexican. Cuello tried to give a follow up shot to the body but the punch landed when Hernandez was already down. The referee counted and declared an end to the bout. Team Cuello were already rejoicing but were shocked to hear the official announcement that the Filipino lost via disqualification due to the illegal punch thrown.
According to Mr. Jaro, Cuello accidentally threw the last punch because the referee was negligent in bringing Cuello to the neutral corner after Hernandez went down. He further said that the referee started to show obvious bias when Denver accidentally fell due to a slip in the first round and the said referee saw it as a knockdown.
Jaro immediately protested the decision before the official panel which included Luis Medina of the WBC submitted himself to the decision when he was in the replay that the punch was indeed thrown while the Mexican fighter was down. Jaro was expecting that the technical decision would be a no contest or a draw similar to what happened in the Mayol vs. Romero bout. Jaro said he has forwarded his appeal to WBC Director General Mauricio Sulaiman and they will just wait for the decision.
In the later note, Jaro revealed that they have another title shot offer for July 17 at Tijuana Mexico. This time it will be a crack at the WBA Minimumweight Title against defending champ Roman Gonzales. Jaro will be having a meeting today with Box Latino Promotions president Erik Morales who will be promoting the fight.
