ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer has announced that bantamweight contender Michael Domingo has signed up with Sampson Lewkowicz's Sampson Boxing Promotion and may challenge Fernando Montiel's title on the Pinoy Power III card scheduled on February 13 next year.
Lewkowicz has been noted to represent a number of Filipino fighters who have successfully made it to the top including world champions Donnie Nietes and Marvin Sonsona.
“My father and I had no reservation whatsoever in signing up Michael Domingo with Sampson Lewkowicz because he is one person who makes things happen,” said the younger Aldeguer in a press statement.
The Sultan Kudarat native Domingo (39-14-2 17KO) has been on a roll when he connected with the famed ALA Gym of Cebu after a so-so performance early in his career and may yet become a world champion in his next outing as his upcoming bout against WBO bantanweight champion Fernando Montiel is on the final stage of negotiation.
Domingo had racked up eight consecutive victories beginning with a scintillating performance against then unbeaten hot Mexican prospect Miguel Roman during the 2007 Philippines vs Mexico World Cup in Sacramento and had added former world champions Ratanachai Sor Vorapin and Jose Navarro to his list of victims.
Another ALA stalwart, Z Gorres, had been originally penciled to fight Montiel in a highly anticipated rematch but had to bow out of boxing after an unfortunate incident happened in his last fight against Luis Melendez at Mandalay Bay's House of Blues where he sustained a head injury. Gorres is currently recovering at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
