CEBU CITY -- Filipino bantamweight contender Z 'The Dream' Gorres of ALA Gym has signed a three year contract with Top Rank and Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions, ALA President Mike Aldeguer has informed PhilBoxing.com.
Gorres (30-2-2 17KO) of Mandaue City, has been slated to headline a Top Rank card on Nov. 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas where he was penciled to face Eric Morel (41-2-0 21KO) of Puerto Rico for the Interim WBO Bantamweight championship.
"We are honored to be working with Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao," Aldeguer, who already have one boxer under the Top Rank promotional banner in Mark Jason Melligen, said.
Asked whether the Gorres-Morel fight had been finalized, Aldeguer said they "have given their go signal to Top Rank for the fight. But as of this moment we have not received word that Morel had already accepted the offer."
It will be recalled that WBO President Paco Valcarcel himself had ordered the Gorres-Morel faceoff together with the Montiel-Penalosa duel with the winners of both fights facing each other afterwards for the regular title.
Gorres last fought on Sep. 4 in Nayarit, Mexico winning by 6th round TKO against former world champion Cruz Carbajal of Mexico. Gorres had two memorable and controversial fights, first against Fernando Montiel on Feb. 24, 2007 in Cebu City where he lost by split decision and second, against Vic Darchinyan on Feb. 2, 2008, also in Cebu City, where the fight ended in a draw.
