EARLY RESULTS FROM MGM GRAND

MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas,NV -- The five non-TV undercard bouts of the Floyd Mayweather vs Juan Manuel Marquez welterweight bout here went fast and furious as three out of five ended in knockouts witnessed by a sparse crowd who came early to the venue as soon as the gate opened at 2 p.m. Pacific time (5 a.m. Manila time).

- In the opening bout, which started at 3 p.m., Mike Perez (5-0-1 2KO) of Newark, NJ won by unanimous decision over Richard Ellis (4-3-0 2KO) of Los Angeles in their 4-round junior lightweight bout.

- Dion Savage (6-0-0 4KO) of Flint, MI won by 4th round TKO over Loren Myers (7-7-0 3KO) of Fresno, CA in their 6-round middleweight bout.

- In a 6 round junior welterweight battle, Jessie Vargas (6-0-0 2KO) displayed good combination skills when he decked Raul Tovar (6-2-0 2KO) of Mission, Tx in the 2nd and 3rd round en route to a unanimous decision victory.

- Undefeated Erislandy Lara (8-0-0 5KO) originally from Guantanamo, Cuba knocked out Jose Varela (23-7-0 16KO) at 2:12 in the first round in their junior middleweight battle.

- Mayweather Gym protege Said Quali (26-3-0 17KO) of Las Vegas knocked down Francisco Rios (17-11-0 12KO) of Phoenix, AZ twice in the first round then finished Rios with another two knockdown in the 2nd round before Referee Jay Nady stopped the contest the 8-round welterweight battle.
