Orillia, Canada (Sep 4) -- WBO super flyweight champion Jose 'Carita' Lopez of Puerto Rico weighed-in at 114.2 lbs while challenger Marvin Sonsona of Philippines came in at 115 lbs as both made weight for tonight's highly anticipated world championship bout during the weighin this morning at Casino Rama.
I had the opportunity to speak to Sonsona, his manager Dr. Rajan Yraola and promoter Sammy Gello-Ani right after the weigh-in.
Marvin is confident and determined going into this fight. He's not drained or dehydrated and he is very determined to win.
Sammy Gello-Ani stated that Marvin has had a long successful amateur career and he's already faced world class competition.
He believes in Marvin's skills since he's seen and promoted many boxers.
Dr. Yraola comments that Marvin is in great shape and ready to go the distance but would rather see the fight end early in Marvin's favor.
I also interviewed Ivan Rivera from Puerto Rico's PR Best Boxing Promotion and Jose Carita Lopez right after the weigh in.
Jose feels great today and said he is in great shape for the fight with Marvin. Lopez said "I know I will win this fight."
In the co-main event both Steve Molitor (126lbs even) and Dario Azuaga (124.6lbs) made their weight for featherweight.
