TAGBILARAN CITY -- Filipino lightweight prospect Jason Pagara (19-1-0 10KO) dominated the dangerous Simson Butar-Butar of Indonesia to earn a wide unanimous decision in a 10-round contest at the ICM Mall in this city here late last night.

Pagara who was overweight by 5 lbs during yesterday's weighin and got the ire of ALA bossman Antonio Aldeguer, climbed the ring wearing 10-ounch gloves as a penalty but this did not deter the young prospect from Cagayan de Oro City to give a creditable performance and showed ring savvy and maturity against the wild swinging and durable power puncher from Indonesia.

Pagara patiently and effectively picked his shots and showed good defence in the early rounds of the contest to frustrate the battle-tested Butar-Butar who once broke the hearts of the Boholanos when he knocked out local boy Czar Amonsot at 47 seconds of the first round on Sep. 23, 2006 in the same venue here to snatched Amonsot's WBO Asia-Pacific super featherweight title. Butar-Butar had before that also knocked out Amonsot in 5 rounds in Jakarta on Feb. 15, 2005.

In round 6, the Boholano crowd came alive when Pagara connected with hard clean shots to the head of Butar-Butar who was visibly groggy after the round but showed his durability by surviving Pagara's onslaught.

In round 7, Butar-Butar perhaps sensing that he was way behind in the scorecards, pressed the action but was stopped on his tracks when Pagara connected a low blow that momentarily halted the action. Pagara however continued to connect by effectively timing his shots to the elusive Indonesian who abusively kept on ducking below the belt. In round 8, Butar-Butar was deducted a point after an accidental headbutt. Butar-Butar was again deducted a point in the 9th round for continually ducking below the belt.

The judges' scorecards were 100-89, 99-89 and 96-92 all for Pagara. PhilBoxing had it 99-90 for Pagara.

In the undercard, brawler Hilario 'Bon Jovi' Canillas (6-1-0 5KO) and veteran Roger Galicia (23-11-4 7KO) treated the crowd with a non-stop action fight from hell as soon as the bell signaled the start of the first round that saw both fighters connected with hard shot and hard shot to each other that left both fighters apparently exhausted after the 3-minute opening stanza. Canillas however appeared to have gained the upperhand from the torrid exchange as Galicia walked unsteadily to his corner. In the 2nd round, both fighters continued what they had left in the 1st round until Canillas connected with a solid shot that sent Galicia to the canvas and finally counted out at the 47 minute mark of the round.

In a grudge rematch, Samuel Galinato won over Rocky Amonsot in a 6-round contest. The couple's last fight ended in a draw.
