Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao has been nominated in the 'Best Fighter' and 'Best Play' categories in this year's Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards (ESPY), an annual event organized by the American cable television network ESPN.

Awards night will be on July 15 at NOKIA Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles starting at 6pm.

Winners will be determined by the number of votes a nominee gets thru online voting at ESPN's website at http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/specialsection/espys2009/#/home/. Online voting is currently ongoing and closes on July 11 at midnight (PST).

Pacquiao's second round knockout of Ricky Hatton on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas made it as one of the 'Best Play' nominees. Others nominated in this category were Alexander Ovechkin's goal against New York Rangers during the Staley Cup Game 5 playoffs on April 24, Santonio Holmes's winning catch during the Super Bowl XLIII and Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree's game-winning catch against Texas.

Pacquiao has also been nominated in the 'Best Fighter' category for his wins against Oscar de la Hoya on Dec. 6 and against Ricky Hatton on May 2. Other fighters nominated in this category were MMA's Lyoto Machida for his knockout victory against erstwhile unbeaten Rashad Evans to capture the light-heavyweight title at UFC98, MMA's Anderson Silva for his wins against Patrick Cote, Thales Leites and James Irwin, and Shane Mosley for his TKO victory against Antonio Margarito.

This year's ESPY Awards has 37 categories including the 'Best Male Athlete' which is being contested by Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Jimmie Johnson and Michael Phelps, and the 'Best International Male Athlete' with Usain Bolt, Pau Gasol, Lionel Messi, Rafael Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo as nominees.
