LOS ANGELES -- Representatives from the mainstream and obscure media squeezed shoulder to shoulder around a small boxing ring inside the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood Wednesday afternoon to get a good position to interview and shoot the pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines who opened his workout to the media for the first time ahead of his megafight with popular British boxer and junior welter champion Ricky Hatton on May 2 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, assisted by Top Rank publicist Fred Sternburg, toured the ring to pose and answer questions before doing his scheduled training for the day. Pacquiao did stretching exercises assisted by conditioning coach Alex Ariza before punching the mitts with trainer Freddie Roach under the glare of scores of film and still cameras.

Pacquiao, who is now a certified global superstar, continued with the heavy bag, the double-end bags and speed bags impressing the throngs of mediamen with his machine-like ferrocity.

Pacquiao and Hatton will meet in the 'Battle of East and West' for Hatton's IBO junior welter crown and for Pacquiao's pound-for-pound ranking.
