Joel de la Cruz will take on highly rated Terdsak Jandaeng of Thailand in today's Daytime Boxing 2 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex in Mandaue City. Today's card, dubbed as 'Thai Invasion' and is organized by SGG Boxing Promotions in association with INTV-CCTN and Kokiet Group of Thailand, will start at 8:00am and will be telecast live in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.
In a telephone interview with PhilBoxing.com, Gello-ani informed that the card can also be seen live on the Internet via CCTN's website at http://www.intv.com.ph/.
Meanwhile, WBO Vice President Leon Panoncillo and Thai promoter Kokiet Panachirayom failed to arrived in Cebu because the Thai airports are still closed to traffic due to the ongoing unrest in Thailand. The Thai boxers however arrived in Cebu yesterday as they took the long route from Bangkok to Phuket to Singapore and then to Manila and Cebu.
Due to Panoncillo's absense, Tony Comia of the Games and Amusements Board - Boxing Division (GAB) will supervise the WBO pairings.
Also gracing today's event are North Cotabato vice-governor Manny Pinol and Congressman Erbie Fabian of Zamboanga City whose boxers are seeing action in today's card.
During the final press conference on Thursday, Gello-ani said that he was surprised with De La Cruz's performance against Somsak Sithchatchawal last September where De La Cruz earned a draw against the highly rated Thailander. "I didn't really expect Joel to give a good fight against Somsak. Because of that performance, he has earned a crack at another highly rated Thailander in Terdsak." He said that De La Cruz is the underdog of this fight but said that he sees a big chance for Joel in winning this fight.
Also seeing action in today's event are Rolando Magbanua of Braveheart boxing stable vs Thiti Sithkosol of Thailand, Federico Catubay of SGG vs Siritchai Kokietgym of Thailand, Eric Canoy of Blue Stallion stable vs Abner Llanasa and hot prospect Marvin Sonsona who takes on Richard Picarda.
