
Pichay re-elected NCFP prexy, eyes more GMs

Manila----The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) eyes to strengthen it's program of producing more Grandmaster this year after Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr. earned a fresh mandate as Chairman/President of the National Sports Association.
The former Surigao Del Sur Congressman was re-elected for his sixth term during Saturday's general assembly at the East Ocean Palace in Paranaque City.
"It is an honor to be re-elected as the Chairman and President of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). I would like to thank the officers and members of NCFP for placing their trust and confidence in my abilities to lead this prestigious organization," said Pichay.
"We will continue with our quest (of producing Grandmasters) by focusing on helping young players earn more rankings by sending them to different tournaments," he added.
The Philippine has produced 19 chess Grandmasters (GMs) in total, which includes 18 male GMs and 1 woman GM.
Pichay will get a lot of help from several new and familiar faces in the 15-man NCFP board.

Pacquiao (3rd Vice President ), Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry S. Oaminal Sr. (Deputy President for Mindanao), former Bayan Muna party list Rep. Neri J. Colmenares (Deputy President for Visayas), Cong. Carlo Sandro L. Gonzalez (Deputy President for Luzon), Malolos City, Bulacan Mayor Christian D. Natividad (Treasurer) , Judge Gonzalo Q. Mapili Jr. (Auditor), Atty. Cresencio V. Aspiras Jr. ( Chairman, Youth Development Committee), Engr. Rey C. Urbiztondo (Chairman, Titles and Ratings Committee), Bureau of Immigration Deputy Commissioner Atty. Aldwin F. Alegre (Chairman, External Affairs Committee), Alicia, Isabela Mayor Joel Amos P. Alejandro ( Chairman, Grassroots and Development Committee), Olongapo City Vice Mayor Kaye Ann S. Legaspi (Chairman, Women's Chess Committee), and Go For Gold Founder Jeremy Randell S. Go (Chairman, Promotions and Incentives Committee).
Grandmaster Jayson O. Gonzales was appointed as Secretary General /Corporate Secretary while Atty. Norieva "Nikki" D. De Vega as Legal Adviser of the chess Federation. -Marlon Bernardino-
