The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Philippine Blu Girls closed out their WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group Stage campaign on a high note, overpowering host nation and world No. 18 Peru, 8-0, in a dominant display of power and precision at the Villa María del Triunfo Softball Complex in Lima.
The Blu Girls wasted no time asserting themselves, building an 8-0 advantage through four innings behind an explosive offensive performance that featured two home runs. The Philippines broke the game open in the second inning before adding another long ball in the fourth, putting the hosts on the back foot and firmly in control for the remainder of the contest. The balanced attack showcased the offensive firepower the team displayed throughout the tournament, capping off their campaign with one of their most convincing performances.
The emphatic victory served as a fitting response after a challenging stretch against some of the world's top-ranked softball nations. Facing a field that included world No. 1 Japan and world No. 3 Puerto Rico, the Blu Girls demonstrated their resilience by earning memorable victories and continuing to prove they can compete on the international stage against elite opposition.
"Our Blu Girls showed exactly what Filipino athletes are made of—heart, resilience, and the determination to keep fighting until the very end," said ASAPHIL President and Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier. "To finish the tournament with such an outstanding performance against the host nation speaks volumes about this team's character. While there is always room to grow, I am incredibly proud of how our players represented the Philippines and competed with courage against some of the best teams in the world. This experience will only make them stronger as they continue their journey."
The Blu Girls leave Lima with valuable experience, renewed confidence, and momentum as they continue building toward future international competitions. With another inspiring performance to close their campaign, the team once again demonstrated that Philippine softball belongs on the world stage. Marlon Bernardino
