Faeldonia scored 6.5 points after 7 rounds of Swiss-system play with a time control of 15 minutes plus 3-second increment. He took home the P3,000 cash prize.
The Odiongan, Romblon native Faeldonia scored six straight wins against Antonello Indigo, John Nathaniel Collera, Josh Borsigue, Sophia Ysabel Orosa, Arena FIDE Master Jayrald Jade Antiporta, and FIDE Master Ivan Travis Cu before drawing his final game against National Master Al-Basher Buto.
Cu, whose only loss was to Faeldonia, scored 6.0 points to settle for second place, followed by Buto, who had the highest tiebreak points among three players tied with 5.5 points. Also with 5.5 points were fourth place Lennox Cordova and fifth place Gabriel James Cartel.
The Espana, Manila based Faeldonia, an incoming Grade 11 student of Arellano University playing under the guidance of coach FIDE Master/International Arbiter Rudy Ibanez, is set to compete in the 2nd Bangkok Summer International Chess Open to be held from July 28 to August 2, 2026 at the Royal Benja Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, upon the invitation of international chess organizer Nick Cholapat Chongstitwattana.
"I am very happy with my performance," said Faeldonia, who will celebrate his 16th birthday on June 22. His local and international chess tournaments are sponsored by Romblon Governor Trina Firmalo, Sta. Fe Chess Knights of Romblon, JA Warehouse of Looc, Romblon, Angel Fritz Engineered Roofing System of Odiongan, Romblon, Municipal Engineering Department of San Jose, Romblon, Dodoy Kriz Villarreal, and Dr. Johnah Galicia.
Meanwhile, OCM Founding Chairman and President Ariel "Apo" Potot explained: “We—you and I, and the whole chess community—are the One Chess Movement. Across 9 districts, we are united by one purpose. Great things rarely happen all at once; they are built through thoughtful moves, small steps, and people who believe in the same vision. By staying true to Transparency, Unity, and Harmony, we can build something meaningful, something lasting, and a movement where every player, every club, and every community can become a winner."
"Our goal also is to cultivate competitive players who can represent the National Capital Region-and the country-on national and international stages," he added.
'We also recognize that chess can be a gateway to academic opportunities, with many prestigious universities offering scholarships to talented players," last word of Potot.-Marlon Bernardino -
