
USA Boxing Elite High Performance Squad Dominates Day One of 2026 Copa America with 11-0 Record

United States Goes 11-0 On Day One In Colombia
GIRARDOT, Colombia (May 18, 2026) – The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Squad swept the opening day at the 2026 Copa America event with a dominant 11-0 record at the Coliseo Centenario in Girardot, Colombia. On Sunday, May 17, the United States had three boxers win by RSC, two earn 5-0 unanimous decision victories, three secure 4-1 split decision victories, and one claim a 3-2 split decision win. Team USA also earned two additional victories by walkover.
Team USA’s undefeated day got started with 2024 Paris Olympian Jennifer Lozano (51 kilograms) after earning an RSC victory in the third round over Sara Torres. Lozano will enter the ring Monday against Claudia Cajo in Session 2, Bout 1 at approximately 4 p.m. ET.
Jayshannet Zapata (54 kilograms) shortly followed Lozano and picked up right where she left off, earning an RSC in the first round over Yindi Peńa. This marked Zapata’s fourth international win and her first international win by RSC. The New York native will box Monday against Diana Maestre in Session 2, Bout 6 at approximately 5:15 p.m. ET.
Rounding out the women’s side on day one, Deborah Grant (57 kilograms) secured a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Genesis De La Rosa, marking her fourth international win, and third by unanimous decision. Grant will look to stay undefeated as she will face Helen Sanchez on Monday in Session 2, Bout 7 at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET.
Moises Rodriguez (55 kilograms) and Yahir Diaz-Martinez (60 kilograms) got the ball rolling for the men’s side after each boxer earned a 4-1 split decision win. Rodriguez was the first of the two to enter the ring and defeated Miguel Ospino, marking the third international victory of his amateur career. Diaz-Martinez shortly followed and defeated Johon Whanpash, securing the second international win of his amateur career. Rodriguez will have Monday off, while Diaz-Martinez is scheduled to face Johan Segura in Session 2, Bout 14 at approximately 7:15 p.m. ET.
Kentrell Rouser (70 kilograms) was the next United States boxer to enter the ring, and after a resilient three rounds of Olympic-style boxing, the Detroit native secured a 4-1 split decision victory over Duvan Cuenu. Rouser earned the second international win of his amateur career and will look for his third international win on Monday against Deiver Ramos in Session 2, Bout 19 at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET.
Malachi Georges (90 kilograms) earned the United States’ third and final RSC victory of the day after winning by RSC in the third round over Sebastian Ovalle. Georges will return to action Monday against Johan Caicedo in Session 2, Bout 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.
Rounding out the day for the Stars and Stripes were the USA Boxing Elite High Performance Squad's two super heavyweights. Gilbert Kabamba was the first of the two to go, and the Boston native secured his first international win Sunday evening with a 3-2 split decision win over Willys Mendoza. Following Kabamba, Nnajai Wright stays undefeated on the international stage after defeating Gerlon Congo by a 5-0 unanimous decision.
Kabamba will face Luis Guerra in Session 2, Bout 26 at approximately 10:15 p.m. ET, and Wright squares off against Andrews Salgado in Session 2, Bout 27 at approximately 10:30 p.m. ET.
Also earning victories by walkover on Sunday were Dustin Jimenez (65 kilograms) and Tyric Trapp (80 kilograms). Jimenez is scheduled to make his event debut Monday against Juan Fernando Palacios in Session 2, Bout 16 at approximately 7:45 p.m. ET, and Trapp will make his event debut against Gustiniano Mina in Session 2, Bout 21 at approximately 9:00 p.m. ET.
The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Squad will have 11 boxers enter the ring Monday, May 18, including Alexis Proctor (60 kilograms), who will make her event debut against Daniela Montoya in Session 2, Bout 11 at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET.
Monday’s schedule will feature two sessions, beginning at noon and 4 p.m. ET. All 11 United States boxers will compete in the second session.
