German promoter AGON took their team to Chile to showcase their three Cubans but things did not turn out as a well as expected as two of the three Cubans were defeated in upsets.
Alvarez vs. Furtado
ALVAREZ stops a badly overmatched FURTADO in the fourth. Alvarez used his longer reach to keep pinging inexperienced Brazilian Furtado at distance in the first rounds and began to add straight lefts in the second. Furtado could not get past the persistent jabbing of Alvarez and was on the back foot for most of the third as Alvarez worked him over with jabs and hooks in what was virtually target practice. Furtado resorted to wild swipes that Alvarez easily dodged. Alvarez ended it early in the fourth. A left staggered Furtado and he went down under a shower of hooks. He was up at six but looked unsteady and after the count another left sent him down and the referee waived the fight over. At 35, and after more than 250 amateur fights, Alvarez, a three-time World Champion (once at bantam and twice at lightweight) is not the force he was. Furtado at 38 had nothing to offer in this fight-not even youth.
Nunez vs. Alvarez
Panamanian southpaw NUNEZ pulls off a shock as he stops highly touted Cuban ALVAREZ in the second round. After some early probing there was some frantic exchanges with Alvarez dropping the advancing Nunez with a left hook. Nunez was up at eight and when the action restarted he caught Alvarez with a hard left hook. Alvarez then forced Nunez to the ropes and landed a series of rights and lefts. Nunez pitched forward looking in trouble and held Alvarez tight. Alvarez sent Nunez to the ropes twice more and connected with a couple of punches each time and Nunez sent a couple of shots whistling past Alvarez’s chin. It was clear this was going to be an explosive fight. Alvarez went down at the start of the second but the referee ruled it a slip. Alvarez then pinned Nunez in a corner but as he fired shots at Nunez he left himself open and a left hook sent him down heavily. He climbed to his feet but staggered back on unsteady legs and the referee made a good stoppage. Only the eighth win by KO/TKO for Nunez who collects the WBA Continental title. He is unbeaten but in his last fight in May 2025 he was down three times and stopped in two rounds by Alfredo Soto. The decision was changed to No Contest when Soto tested positive for a banned substance. Alvarez, 25, was looked on as a rising star in Cuban boxing after winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
Sanchez vs. Ruiz
Experienced Argentinian battler SANCHEZ also defies the odds as he takes a split verdict over young Cuban hope RUIZ. Sanchez won this one on experience aggression and resilience. Ruiz was by far the better boxer, a classy stylist with fast hands and good footwork. Sanchez had been in twelve fights of ten or more rounds and that was a factor with Ruiz never going past the sixth round. Ruiz was at his best when he was able to box at distance but Sanchez kept coming switching guards and putting Ruiz under plenty of pressure. Ruiz looked to have done enough to be in front after five but Sanchez just kept coming working on Ruiz’s body and Ruiz was being dragged into a brawl. Ruiz fought hard but he was being forced to fight Sanchez fight and the Argentinian looked a good winner. Scores: 96-94 twice for Sanchez and 97-93 for Ruiz who wins the WBA Fedelatin title.Sanchez is rated No 7 middleweight in the Argentinian ratings but dropped down a division for this fight. Ruiz, 23, has stacks of ability and will improve with more experience.
Oumiha vs. Rodriguez
OUMIHA one of the most successful of French amateurs boxers Oumiha boxed with real skill in decisioning experienced Venezuelan RODRIGUEZ. Oumiha controlled the fight taking up the entre ring and using aster hand speed to pierce Rodriguez’s guard at distance. His superior footwork also saw him dart inside to score with rights and get out before Rodrigues could counter. Oumiha also put together some impressive combinations. Rodriguez was dangerous with rights and looked to have shaken Oumiha with one in both the second and third but over the three minutes Oumiha landed more in both rounds. Whether on the front foot or the back foot Ouma was the master. He rarely blocked Rodriguez’s punches instead bobbing, weaving and skipping away and all he lacked was the power to go with his skill. No scores available but Oumiha looked to have won every round.
Oumiha won two silver medals at the Olympics and three golds at the World Championships but suffered a surprise loss against Francisco Fonseca being floored and outpointed in a fight for the vacant WBA Gold lightweight title in August. Rodriguez, 38, lost on points to Oumiha’s team mate Lazaro Aklvarez in September.
Ruhe vs. Sungarov
Italian RUHE stops SUNGAROV in five rounds. Sungarov made a fast start speeding around Ruhe flinging out light punches. Ruhe walked him down and landed a couple of body punches. Ruhe put Sungarov under heavy pressure over the second and third walking in behind a high guard and scoring with hooks and uppercuts. Sungarov threw a pile of punches in the fourth but none of them packed the power of Ruhe’s rights. A barrage of punches in the fifth had Sungarov taking a knee. He was up at six but Ruha hunted him down and unloaded another series of shots and Sungarov again dropped to one knee. He made it to his feet but went down again and the fight was stopped. Fourteenth inside the distance wins for WBA No 8 Ruhe who was defending the WBA Gold title. Russian-born German Sungarov was overweight so could not have won the title.
Arteaga vs. Balmaceda
An impressive young Colombian southpaw “Chocolatito” ARTEAGA climbs off the canvas and stops BALMACEDA in the second. Arteaga was firing bombs from the start but was nailed with a left hook as stormed forward in the first minute and went down. He was up quickly and when the count was over he took the fight to Balmaceda. He connected with a series of hard lefts that had Balmaceda reeling at the bell. Arteaga exploded into the second pounding Balmaceda with a whirlwind attack until Balmaceda dropped to a knee. Balmaceda was up at 7 but was battered to his knees. He only just made it to his feet at 9 ½ but was sent down again and the fight was stopped. Arteaga, 19, has taken less than eight rounds for his five wins but the opposition has been of low quality. Second defeat by KO/TKO for Peruvian Balmaceda.
APRIL 25
LAS VEGAS, NV, USA; HEAVY: JARRELL MILLER (28-1-2) W PTS 12 LENIER PERO (13-0). LIGHT: ALAN CHAVES (22-0) W KO 3 MIGUEL MADUENO (31-5). SUPER WELTER: DAMIAN SOSA (27-3) W PTS 10 FREUDIS ROJAS (15-0).

Miller vs. Pero
MILLER wins WBA eliminator with a unanimous decision mover PERO. Cuban Pero made the better start moving around a slow Miller who just prodded out his jab without following it up. Pero had faster hands and he got through with jabs and rights. Miller was a bit more active in the second but again the quicker Pero did the scoring. From the third Miller began to bully Pero shouldering him to the ropes and working inside. Miller was 50 lbs heavier and he used that weight to lean on Pero smothering Pero’s work and tiring him. That set the tone for the rest of the fight. Miller actually worked hard keeping up a high punch ratio in most rounds The movement Pero had shown in the first two rounds disappeared and he spent much of the fight with his back against the ropes. It was a gruelling brawl with the weighty clubbing shots from Miller wearing Pero down. Even when Pero escaped from the ropes he showed no real fire and pretty soon found himself back there again. It looked as though Miller might end it in the eighth as he had Pero in a corner and unloaded on him with heavy rights and lefts but Pero survived but was on unsteady at the end of ninth. Miller continued to bang away at Pero in the tenth but the Cuban rallied briefly in the eleventh landing some hefty body punches but Miller bossed the last. Miller won on scores of 117-111 twice and 115-113. This is only Miller’s second fight in almost two years and he indicated he wanted to fight again soon. Deontay Wilder’s name was being bandied about and that might sell well. Pero was a disappointment . Obviously giving away 50 lbs + was a handicap but to be exhausted after less than nine minutes was ridiculous.

Chaves vs. Madueno
CHAVES flattens MADUENO in the third. Impressive first showing in the USA for Chaves. The Argentinian was quickly on target with his right jabs and was driving straight lefts to Madueno’s body. Those lefts to the body and some quick combinations continued to get through in the second with Madueno very much on the defensive. Chaves walked Madueno down in the third shadowing him around the ring. Chaves ended it in spectacular fashion. When Madueno took a step away from the ropes Chaves connected with a thunderous left to the head that sent Maderno down flat on his back out cold and he was counted out. Chaves, 25, has now won 15 of his last 16 fights inside the distance with Freddy Fonseca and Pablo Vicente both finished early. He is No 2 with the WBO and looks a real danger man. Mexican Madueno had scored 28 of his 31 wins by KO/TKO but was coming off back-to-back losses against Keyshawn Davis and Oscar Duarte.

Sosa vs. Rojas
SOSA score a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten ROJAS. The fight was fairly even over the first half of the fight but the relentless pressure from Sosa put him in control. He floored Rojas in the sixth and he took the decision on scores of 96-93 on all three cards.
APRIL 25
HASSELT, BELGIUM: SUPER LIGHT: HOVHANNES MARTIROSYAN (20-1) W KO 2 MICHAL DUFEK (38-38-2).
Belgian MARTIROSYAN scores a second round win over Czech DUFEK. Martirosyan, 34, went 16-0 before losing to Patrick O’Leary in 2024 but after returning with four wins is now official challenger for the European Silver title.
SANTIAGO, CHILE: SUPER FEATHER: JOSUE AGUERO (15-0) W PTS 10 ANGEL GARCIA (20-2). ATOM: ALDANA LOPEZ (15-0) W PTS 10 BRENDA ALARCON (19-8-3). SUPER FLY: FACUNDO GARCIA (6-2-2,1 ND) W PTS 10 ANDRES CAMPOS (17-5-1) .
Aguero vs. Garcia.
Argentinian AGUERO retains the WBA Gold title with a unanimous decision over Mexican GARCIA. Aguero had the superior skills and used those to box on the outside Garcia was relying on plenty of aggression to make it a give-and-take brawl. Both had periods of success with the cleaner and more eye-catching work coming from Aguero who built a narrow lead then survived a strong finish from Garcia to win on scores of 97-93, 96-94 and 96-95. WBA No 11Aguero, 24, was making the first defence of the Gold title. Garcia was in decent form but came up short in this one.
Lopez vs. Alarcon
Argentinian LOPEZ outclasses Mexican ALARCON to win the WBA International title. “The Wasp” outboxed Alarcon all the way. Alarcon trundled forward but Lopez used her longer reach score at distance and Alarcon kept walking onto counters. Although Alarcon had more experience as a professional Lopez had extensive amateur experience to offset that. Lopez won on scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91. Lopez adds this title to the Argentinian, South American and WBA Fedelatin belts she already holds at light flyweight. Alarcon is a former WBO flyweight and Atom title holder.
Garcia vs. Campos
GARCIA pulls off an upset as he wins a split decision in a foul-invested fight over favoured local CAMPOS. There was plenty of clean action and lots of not so nice action. Both fighters were deducted a point for fouls but there was a lot of stuff that went unpunished. Campos should have won this one but he allowed Garcia to drag him into untidy inside exchanges and that cost him the decision. Garcia won on scores of 95-93 twice with the third judge going for Campos 95-94. Garcia, a lowly No 7 in the Argentinian ratings, won the vacant WBA Continental title. Campos had lost to Sunny Edwards in a challenge for the IBF flyweight title in 2023 and to Nonito Donaire for the WBA Interim bantamweight title in June last year.
KOLDING, DENMARK: SUPER MIDDLE: JACOB BANK (19-0) W KO 5 PAULINUS NDJOLONIMU (20-2). LIGHT HEAVY: CONSTANTINO NANGA (15-0) W RTD 4 DYLAN COLIN 14-3). HEAVY: TOMAS SALEK (24-8) W PTS 6 BRAGE LANGE (9-1) .
Bank vs. Ndjolonimu
Fighting in a WBC eliminator in his home city BANK outboxes and then puts away Namibian NDJOLONIMU in the fifth. Bank looked sharp early and only occasional had problems with the Namibian’s long reach. Bank had won the first four rounds before sending Ndjolonimu down with a left to the body in the fifth with the visitor being counted out. Now 11 wins by KO/TKO for Bank, 25, and with his wins over Tyron Zeuge and William Skull he has climbed to No 3 with the WBO and No 4 with the WBC. Ndjolonimu’s loss was a majority decision against 27-0 Simon Zachenhuber in July.
Nanga vs. Colin
Angolan-born Swede NANGA beats Frenchman COLIN on a fourth round retirement. Nanga nearly ended it in the first round as he floored Colin twice with rights. Colin survived and fought back bravely before retiring with an injury after the end of the fourth round. The 6’3” Nanga goes to 11 inside the distance victories. Former French champion Colin suffers his third consecutive loss against an unbeaten opponent.
Lange vs. Salek
Czech SALEK wasthere to lose but threw away the script and scored an upset win over giant Norwegian LANGE. Salek, 6’ 3 ½” was more mobile than the 6’7 ½” Lange and lasted the pace better. Scores 58-56 twice for Salek and 57-57. In his last fight in November Salek was stopped inside the first round by Richard Torrez. Lange had won all of previous fights inside the distance without going past the third round.
AIX-en-PROVENCE, FRANCE: SUPER WELTER: UISMAN LIMA (16-2) W TKO 9 SOULEIMANE MOHAMMEDI (16-1-1). WELTER: JORDY WEISS (34-1-1) W PTS 6 FLAVIO MARCA (4-5-2).
Lima vs. Mohammedi
Angolan southpaw LIMA scores a late stoppage over MOHAMMEDI. Lima looked to be on the way to a points victory but he floored local Mohammedi twice with body punches in the ninth to force the stoppage. Lima lost in the first round against Jaron Ennis for the WBA interim title in October. Mohammedi, 23, can come again.
Weiss vs. Marca
WEISS takes another short step on his rehabilitation as he outpoints fellow-Frenchman MARCA. Scores 60-54 twice and 59-55. Second victory for Weiss after having his 33 bout unbeaten run broken and losing his European title against Samuel Molina in 2024
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA: SUPER BANTAM: ELTON DHARRY (30-6-1) W SALMIN KASSIM (11-0-2). FEATHER: KEEVIN ALLICOCK (4-0) W TKO ? DEXTER MARQUES (19-5).
Dharry vs. Kassim
After a 22-year career and at the age of 40 DHARRY finally wins a world title as he decisions Tanzanian KASSIM for the vacant IBO title. Things didn’t look too bright early for Dharry as he was floored in the second round. He recovered from that and never looked back. He had Kassim in trouble in the fifth and dominated the fight from there. Both fighters were cut in head clashes but the cuts were not a factor. Dharry won on scores of 117-109 twice and 118-109. Dharry was 27-1 in his last 28 fights before this but had only one fight in the previous 16 months. Kassim, 22 had won his last 10 fights and was No 17 with the IBO but Dharry was unrated due to inactivity.
Allicock vs. Marques
In the co-main event ALLICOCK captured the Guyana featherweight title after MARQUES was unable to continue due to a cut over his right eye. Allicock is the coming star in Guyanese boxing. He was an outstanding amateur winning Silver at the Commonwealth Youth Games, competing at the Commonwealth Games, Pan-American Games and the World Championships and 2020 Olympics as well as winning three gold medals at consecutive Caribbean championships. Marques, 39, has been a mainstay of Guyana boxing for almost 20 years. .
TORREON, MEXICO: FLY: JOSELITO VELASQUEZ (23-1-1) W RTD 6 ANDRES OLIVAS (24-0-1,2ND). SUPER BANTAM: CHRISTOPHER LOPEZ (22-0-2) W PTS 10 RASHIB MARTINEZ (24-6-1).
Velasquez vs. Olivas
“Huracan” VELASQUEZ gets his seventh win in a row as previously unbeaten OLIVAS quits after the sixth round. Olivas was the livelier boxer in the first but Velasquez was landing plenty of hurtful body punches in the second. The pace was fast and the rounds close but by the fourth Olivas was slowing and Velasquez upped the pressure. A series of hooks to head and body had Olivas struggling to stay in the fight in the fifth and he soaked up some serious punishment in the sixth and did not come out for the seventh. Velasquez, a 2016 Olympian, but now 32, is No 6 (4) with the IBF (positions 1 and 2 are vacant), No 6 with the WBC and 12 with the WBA. His only loss was against Cristopher Rosales in 2020. Olivas’ record looks impressive but there are no wins over big name fighters.
Lopez vs. Martinez
LOPEZ floors and outpoints MARTINEZ to extend his unbeaten run to 24 contests. Martinez took the fight to Lopez from the start but paid for it as Lopezconstantly found the target with hard counters. Martinez kept coming and made it an entertaining fight but was cut over his left eye in the second and slowly ground down by effective body punches from Lopez. Martinez only just survived the eighth and was floored in the ninth but went the distance. Scores 100-89 twice and 98-92 for Lopez, who won the WBC Fecarbox title. He will have to face stiffer opposition if he wants to crash the ratings.
REYNOSA, MEXICO: LIGHT HEAVY: JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ Jr (56-7-1) W KO 3 Jhon Caicedo (13-2).
CHAVEZ JR has no problems in disposing of Colombian novice CAICEDO in three rounds. After a slow first round Chavez landed heavily in the second and put Caicedo down for the count in the third. Chavez is 19-years older and was 11 lbs heavier but still seems to believe that despite all of his problems he might still have the chance of a title fight. Caicedo was having his first fight since being knocked out in three rounds by Avni Yildirim in June last year.
KOSCIERZYNA, POLAND : HEAVY: KACPER MEYNA (17-1) W KO 1 JUNIOR WRIGHT (21-8-1). WELTER: MATEUSZ POLSKI (11-1) W PTS 10 IGOR PRYGA (10-2).

Wright beat the count but another left hook floored him and he was counted out. Meyna extends his winning run to twelve fights, including victories over Adam Kownacki and Mariusz Wach and gets his eleventh inside the distance finish. Wright is 1-4 in his last 5 fights with all 4 losses by KO/TKO.
Polski vs. Pryga
POLSKI overcomes a shaky start to outpoint PRYGA. Pryga outboxed Polski in the first and scored a knockdown with a left in the second. Polski settled and from the third won every round as he dominated with his jab and straight rights. He had Pryga in trouble in the sixth but couldn’t find a finisher and had to settle for a points victory. Scores 97-92 on all three cards. Polski picks up tis vacant Polish and WBC Baltic titles. Pryga had won his last 10 bouts.
BANGKOK, THAILAND : SUPER FEATHER: IBRAHIM MGENDER (34-6-2) W TKO 5 KRITIPHAK DUANGNUT (10-6-1).
Tanzanian MGENDER wins the vacant WBC International title stopping Thai DUANGNUT in the fifth. Duangnut was driving forward from the start firing punches from both hands with Mgender on the back foot boxing cooly. Mgender changed tactics in the second using his longer reach to force Duangnut back and he twice shook Duangnut with long rights. Duangnut’s only defence was his offence and he was an easy target for Mgender who scored heavily through the third and dropped Duangnut late in the fourth. Mgender sent Duangnut down with a series of left hooks in the fifth and although Duangnut beat the count and threw himself into a wild attack a series of neck-snapping rights put him down and the fight was stopped. These two had drawn in February but this time Mgender handed Duangnut a serious beating and the Tanzanian is now unbeaten in his last 14 fights. Duangnut just a bar room brawler at best.
ROCHESTER, NY: SUPER LIGHT: BRYCE MILLS (22-1) W RTD 3 JULIO ROSA(11-7).
MILLS successfully defends the WBC USA Silver title with a win overPuerto Rican ROSA. Mills staggered and almost floored Rosa in the first exchange of punches in the opening round.
