
Macala, Silva, Lopez to play in 14th Atty. Jong Guevarra Cup

NATIONAL masters Macacuna “Aki” Macala, Winston Joseph Silva and Henry Roger Lopez will be seeing action the 14th Atty. Jong Guevarra Cup Mindanao Chess Challenge on April 11 at the Atrium of Gaisano Mall in Toril.
This was confirmed by Atty. Jong Guevarra, who will turn 60 on April 19.
Macala is from Davao City while Lopez plays for Panabo.
“They are rated no. 1 and 2, respectively,” said Guevarra.
Silva,on the other hand, is based in Thailand already. He is the dark horse at no. 11.
He is originally from Tagum City and is now a coach in Thailand.
“He was going on vacation in the Philippines, so he registered,” said Guevarra.
Also registered in the Open category are James Bulicatin, AGM Irwin Aton, AFM Andrei Ainsley Dolorosa, Aaron Aton, Jimmy Dano, Ralph Greval Dalauta, Chris Maynard and AIM Jason Rojo.
Meanwhile, Akeesha Louise Solis of Malagos Elementary School [1703] is the top seed in theKiddies category.
The others are Jarelle Pardillo, Paul Cedric Enriquez, Xamuel Sara, Coen Willems, Rhoestam Mohammad Basucao, Margarette Aton, Jian Andrei Rosas, Mart Bernard Olay and Eunice Ysabelle Condrado.
“The first 50 registrants will also receive t-shirts,” said Guevarra.
The champion in the Open category will win P25,000 and a trophy while the second will get P15,000 and a trophy.
Third place will receive P10,000 and a trophy. The 4th and 5th will get P6,000 and P4,000, respectively.
The 6th to 10th placers will all receive P2,000.
Certificates will also be awarded. Registration fee is P500 [Open], P400 [18 under] and P300 [kiddies 12 under].

Best 18 & under – P1,500 + certificate
Best Woman – P1,500 + certificate
Best Senior – P1,500 + certificate
School with most no. of participants – P2,000 + certificates

2nd– P4,000 + trophy3rd– P3,000 + trophy
4th– P2,000 + certificate
5th– P1,000 + certificate
6thto 10th – P500 + certificate each
Best Woman - P500 + certificate
Schoolwith most no. of participants – P2,000 + certificates
