National Master Jasper Faeldonia rules Romblon chessfest

National Master Jasper Faeldonia emerged as champion of the 179th Fiesta Chess Tournament at the Odiongan Legislative Building in Odiongan, Romblon last Saturday, April 4,2026.

Faeldonia finished the 7-Round Swiss System competition with undefeated 6.5 points on six wins and one draw to clinch the title and the P8,000 cash prize.

"I am very happy with my victory because almost all of the top players from Romblon province joined the tournament," said NM Jasper, last year Most Valuable Player in the NCAA chess meet who help the College of St. Benilde to the championships trophy.

Jerick Faeldonia and Nepthali Bantang landed at second and third places with 6.0 points apiece.

Vance Thristian Fajarit and Rilly Familara occupied fourth to fifth spots with 5.5 points each.

Jay-Ar Maquirang, Gerald Gas, Engr. Ernie Faeldonia, Jay El Fabiala, Noe Ramon, Vicente Luben, Engr. Gary Faeldonia, Nomie Fajarito, Kristofferson Caesar Yao, Rey Fajarito and Denver Dimaculangan have identical 5.0 points.

Rounding at the top 20 were Nomar Kiel Ramon (17th), Ricardo Fedalino (18th), Roda Ngo (19th) and Peter Clife Tumbagahon (20th)

The adjudged category winners were Ryel Min Joon Cano (top kiddies), Vema Falogme (top lady) and Eddie Mame (top senior).

The 179th Fiesta Chess Tournament was supported by LGU Odiongan, led by Vice-Mayor, Hon. Michael “Butchoy” Arevalo & SB Chow Chua, 179th Town Fiesta Sports Coordinator, Sta. Fe Chess Knights, Sta. Fe, Romblon, JA Warehouse, Looc, Romblon Chessmatics Academy, FCTP, Odiongan Chess Club, under the leadership of Club President Roy Fradejas Fetalvero and Club Secretary/Arbiter Alexis Visca (Marlon Bernardino)
