
NBA Daily: Wembanyama-less Spurs Dominate Lakers 132-119 in NBA Cup Quarterfinals

Tagbilaran City, Bohol – The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Los Angeles Lakers 132-119 in their NBA Cup quarterfinal match on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The Spurs were still without top player Victor Wembanyama, who is still nursing a calf injury.
San Antonio had seven players in double figures, led by reigning Rookie-of-the-Year Stephon Castle, who scored 21 points in the second half alone and finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists. He shot a very efficient 10-for-14 (71.4%) from the field, including 3-for-6 (50%) from the rainbow territory. DeAaron Fox added 20 markers, 4 boards, 3 dimes, and 2 steals.
Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, and Julian Champagnie also contributed 17, 16, and 16, respectively for the Spurs.
Luka Doncic led all scorers with 35 points, while Marcus Smart chipped in 26 off-the-bench for Los Angeles. LeBron James had a huge double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds, to go along with 8 assists and 3 blocks for the Lakers, who have been eliminated from the NBA Cup tournament.
The Spurs will now face a familiar foe in the defending champions Oklahoma City Thunder for the NBA Cup semifinal match that will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time).
Meanwhile, the Lakers will travel to Phoenix to face the Suns on Sunday night (Monday morning, Philippine time).
