Former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao confirmed that there are ongoing talks for a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Before the start of the Thrilla in Manila II at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Pacquiao said that the negotiations for the rematch will be finalized.

Pacquiao has been appointed as the Vice President of International Boxing Association (IBA). The director of IBA Pro Series Al Siesta said that the IBA welterweight world tile could be at stake if both legends decide finally to face a rematch.

Before the Mayweather proposal, there were plans of challenging World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Rolly Romero. But it suddenly became unclear when the WBA ordered Romero to fight the number one contender Shakhram Giyasov of Uzbekistan as mandatory challenger.

But Pacquiao really wanted the rematch with Mayweather to materialize to avenge his unanimous decision loss last May 2, 2015. It was the biggest fight in boxing history in terms of revenues as it earned 410 million dollars in pay-er-view receipts in America alone.

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman supports a Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch. According to Sulaiman both Pacquiao and Mayweather are superstars and their second fight will generate interests in the millions of boxing fans worldwide.

He pointed out the recent Pacquiao draw with WBC champion Mario Barrios as a proof that the Filipino boxing hero still has the capability to fight.

In an interview with Hard Rock Bet, Sulaiman said that their first fight was the biggest in history in the business aspect. Both are boxing icons, legends and Hall of Famers. If both fighters would decide to face each other once again, then it is good for the sport according to the WBC honcho.

Boxing journalist Dan Rafael wrote that Pacquiao-Mayweather II would be an official fight and Netflix is willing to televise it as its official network.

The month of April next year is the proposed date. According to Pacquiao it will be held in Las Vegas with the venue to be known later.
