
GM Antonio finishes 14th in World Senior Standard event

Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. drew his final match, relegating him to 14th place in the recently-concluded 33rd FIDE World Senior Chess Championships at the Grand Hotel Brada in Gallipoli, Italy on Saturday.
The 19th seeded Antonio, playing white split the points with 90th seed Yuriy V. Isaev of Russia after 96 moves of Sicilian defense to finish with 7.0 points on account of 5 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses in the 50 and above category of the Standard competition.
In the 65 over category, International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, playing white toppled International Master Rony Gunawan of Indonesia after 44 moves of English Opening to score 7.5 points on account of 7 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses and finished overall 14 place.
FIDE Master Mario Mangubat, playing black split the points with International Master Nicolas Giffard after 34 moves of King's Indian defense to score 6.5 points on account of 4 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses and landed at 47 place.
It shall be recalled that Antonio won the gold medal in the blitz competition, Mangubat took the silver medal white International Master Alexander Reprintsev of Ukraine got the bronze medal. The trio tallied identical 7.0 points however after the tie break was applied, Antonio wound up on top for the gold medal.

President and General Manager Ricardo Padrinao, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita 'Menchie' Aguilar- Abalos, Minglanilla, Cebu Mayor Rajiv Enad, Congw.
