The IIEE National Chess Olympiad Season 7 completed its elimination with half of the teams eliminated, and only the remaining 10 teams battled it out in the playoff for a semis spot. Elimination leader and In-Season Champion IIEE Singapore topped the playoff with a total of 229 points, with top contributions from FM Narquingden Reyes (26), Narquingel Reyes (25), FM Nelson Mariano III (21), Mark Gerald Reyes (21), Mark James Marcellana (19), NM Julius Sinangote (18), Mark Oliver Ingcad (17), Adrian Esteva (17), Leonard Raymond Reyes (15), and Andres Bautista (15). Joining them in the semis on October 31, 2025, are Mapua with 202 points led by IM Idelfonso Datu and Chin Lim (with 23 each); International Chess Friends Federation (ICFF) led by Mensuary Pacalundo and Jiggy Miguel Vicente (with 17 each); and Faeldonia Philippine Chess Team (FPCT) led by Louise Manuel Macalintal (17). GM Laylo led the FCPL, or Filipino Chess Player League-Qatar, with 16 points but bowed out of the tournament, together with the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), IIEE Saudi, IIEE Metro Manila, IIEE Iloilo, and two-time season champion IIEE Mindanao. FCPL-Qatar got the consolation prize of having the most level championship in elimination rounds for Php4,000. The season champion will get a glass trophy, 15 championship rings, and Php10,000. The 1st runner-up will get Php7,000, 2nd runner-up Php5,000, and 3rd runner-up P4,000.

IIEE PSME Quezon City Simba’s Tribe won its two matches in PCAP last October 15, 2025, versus the Mindoro Tamaraws and the Tacloban Pawnmovers. The Simba’s Tribe win contributors were team owner Danilo Ponay, Nixon Curioso, NM Gerald Ferriol, and twin brothers Francis and Freddie Talaboc, in carving a 12.5 – 8.5 mark versus the Tamaraws. Ferriol beat AGM Nezil Merilles on board 1 as he rebounded from a default loss in blitz. Both Ponay and Freddie got a full 3 points for the match in leading the team. The IIEE PSME QC team notched a twin win by drubbing Tacloban RCM Pawnmovers 16-5. All of the QC players have won a game, with Romy Fagon, Jellie Ann Magno, and Kristian Paulo Cristobal joining Ponay, Curioso, Ferriol, Francis, and Freddie. Unbeaten are Fagon versus Jeriel Manlimbana, and Curioso vs Napoleon Bello Jr. Freddie Talaboc is the team’s charm, getting a full 6 points for the day. The team is targeting to continue its streak on Saturday, October 18, 2025, versus the Bangkok Double Bishop and the Koronadal Dreamweavers. -Marlon Bernardino -
